Re: Broke my black powder cherry

I have been shooting muzzleloaders for years and they are as much fun as antique cartridge guns, but to ramp up your fun, get a flintlock. I'd start with a pistol. Traditions makes some nice flintlock pistol kits, not too expensive and reasonably easy to assemble (some care in fitting is required an...

Re: 1918 Izhevsk Dragoon

On board with shooting your collectibles, unless it is a million dollar "shutzen" target rifle, not shooting means they are just a piece of iron in a closet. By the way, my Mosin (M91/30 made in 1934) shoots much better that my K98k Mauser (1941, in excellent condition), in my opinion, the...

Re: classicfirearms new batch not refurbished

Pretty pleased with open sights. I would like to know what setting you used on the rear sight to get such a tight group at 50 yards. My rear sight won't set lower than 100 meters (109 yards). I have tried using a sight picture where the tip of the front blade pin is in the bottom of "V" in...

Re: Mosin-Nagant In Vietnam

Thank you all for the information. It will help put to rest all the various theories we have floating around as to their origin. I served with the 1st Cavalry during 1966 - 1967. Never saw a mosin-nagant of any kind, the most common war trophy I recall was the French WWI Lebel. !966 was the time whe...

Mosin-Nagant In Vietnam

The Viet Cong used Mosin-Nagant carbines in the early to middle stages of the Vietnam war. It is my understanding that a large proportion of these were copies manufactured by the Chinese. Supposedly, some were actually Russian in origin, both purpose made and cut down rifles. Does anyone have inform...

Re: My 1st Mosin lots of questions

I suggest you look on the barrel above the receiver and see if the makers mark is the Russian Imperial Eagle crest which would date it WWI or earlier. It may also give you the arsenal where it was made, including those made in the United States by Remington or Winchester for the Czarist government d...

Mosin-Nagant Ammunition Pouches

I have 8 leather ammunition pouches for use with the Mosin-Nagant rifle. They hold 2 stripper clips (or 10 loose rounds). They are Russian Army issue, but I have no information as to their date of manufacture. They appear to have been issued, but are in excellent condition. I am willing to sell them...

Re: Mitchell's Mousers

Because of Obama's fuss with Putin over the Ukraine, most imports from Russia have been stopped, including surplus arms and ammunition made in Russian factories. I don't know for certain if existing contracts will be honoured, but if the embargo continues, at some point, there will be no more Russia...

Re: Thread for Matching Bayonets to Rifles (Sticky)

I have a M91/30 manufactured in 1934. Came with bayonet 6171, I am looking for a bayonet to match rifle serial number 26475. I will trade but am not willing to sell current bayonet as it fits (very tight) on my rifle and is in excellent condition.

Re: Vietnam bringback w/capture paper, lots of pics

I served w/ 1st Cav in "nam during 1966-1967. The most sent back rifle at that time was 1917 or 1918 Lebels. I did not see anyone fill out paper work for the trophy weapons, just packed them and sent them off. It is really nice to have the provenance for a Vietnam war trophy weapon. This one lo...

Re: 1918 Springfield M1903 Mark I

Oldarmyguy. Thanks for the suggestions. We do clean them thoroughly before and after use. In fact, if I could, I'd buy one. Some years ago I was able to find a 30-06 blank round in our stash that had a cardboard slug. This chambered easy. Have not been able to locate any since anywhere. From what I ...

Re: 1918 Springfield M1903 Mark I

It seems that everyone is pleased with their '03. I am not at all knowledgeable about them but I do have a question/issue I could use some help on. My VFW post has 8 US Army surplus (Springfield Arsenal) '03 rifles we use for Memorial Day ceremonies and our problem is that the blank rounds do not fe...

Re: Mosin-Nagant accuracy

Regarding the steel plates. These are my shooting clubs' plates. The 150 and 200 yards are limited to the provided plates,These targets are set into a carved out dirt hillside and it is difficult to get to. The club does not let you put your own targets out. At 100 yards, the club provides steel pla...

Mosin-Nagant accuracy

Just wanted to comment on my range results with my 91/30. I fired 40 rounds and found my rifle to be amazingly accurate for a service rifle. I was able to hit 12 inch diameter steel plates at 150 and 200 yards by using the sight set a 200 meters, adjusting for elevation. Using Brown Bear ammo, FMJ o...

Re: My Mosin Has some odd symbols next to the TULA mark

I have a 1934 Tula with those marks stamped on the right side of the receiver looking down from above. These are almost hidden by the stock. By using a really powerful magnifier, I found the "C" is really a "C" with a dot in the center of the arc and the other an "M" wi...

Re: Thread for Matching Bayonets to Rifles (Sticky)

Have a bayonet with #6171, it is also marked No. 2 above the retaining pin for the release. The issue I have is that the bayonet does not fit all the way down the barrel. It will drop down all but 1/4 inch of clearing the muzzle. The outer end of the bayonet is smaller than the diameter of the rifle...

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!

Hi, I'm George and I recently purchased a M91/30 to stand as a companion to my Mauser K98k. I like the M91/30 more than the Mauser. My MN came with the issue tools and a bayonet, but I am having a problem with the bayonet. I also have a collection of home-built muzzle-loaders which are a nice change...
