Re: COVIDIOTS
County just enacted a mandatory curfew effective this evening-all citizens are to remain at home from 10PM to 5AM daily and shall not be in any public place (including traveling on any street or road) for any purpose. The only exceptions are essential workers traveling between work and home, caregi...

Re: COVIDIOTS
And you think that the protests caused this? And what's a Covidiot? Someone who sees through the deception? Or people who have just had enough of this nonsense? Some folks just get bored of saving their and other people's lives. Others try to make a political issue out of medical issue. I pla...

Re: 20 rd plastic Magazine in SKS
I really don't get the concept of a 20 round magazine in an SKS... Doesn't matter much. $850 is highway robbery... even if it was a Russian... I suppose that in some states this magazine would be illegal and in other not so much... I'm pretty sure it would be legal in Michigan but not to hunt with....

Re: czech silver tip 7.62x54r
Totally a low ball (and really an insulting) offer. A crate for $150 shipped? Well, it's obvious you don't need any. The ammo as the rifles have dried up. If you have no need for the ammo, try selling it locally. I'd say $150 a can is more like it. I'm seeing this ammo selling for $1 a round and a c...

Re: 1914 PTG M91 converted to 91/38
Oh, definitely done and not uncommon. I had a 1915 and a 1916 Tula... And, actually, I never found an Izhevsk in 91/38 configuration that was manufactured during the "PTG" years of 1915 and 1916. I would like to have but they never showed up, at least for me... I had a 1913 and a 1914 Izhe...

Re: 1940 Izhevsk M38 in Laminated M38 Stock
I don't know that I'd use the word "rare". More appropriately, "uncommon". I suppose that finding a laminated M-38 stock would be an interesting find. Don't know that I'd be willing to pay a bonus for it though. It's really all in the eyes of the prospective buyer what the value ...

Re: 1940 Izhevsk M38 in Laminated M38 Stock
I've seen very few M-38's in laminated stocks, if any. But like all Mosins, they's probably a few of them out there somewhere. Nothing much seems to be impossible for these guns. Most that are in laminated stocks are in M-44 laminated stocks. The only laminated M-38 I had was a '44 Izhevsk in an M-4...

Re: Bad Timing
You can buy powder now from the Hodgdon and IMR sights. The last time I looked they had popular powders back in stock. But, who knows for how long since much of what they sell is either made in Canada or Australia. I bought a couple pounds of H4895. Good luck on the primers...

Re: 1940 Izhevsk M38 in Laminated M38 Stock
$300-$400+ It really is determined by the quality of the stock and the quality of the rifle refurbishment. Things like a counterbore, although not the end of the world, is not as desirable as a nice non-counterbored bore. The stock would make a difference to me. If a true M-38 stock, it will get a p...

Re: 1940 Izhevsk M38 in Laminated M38 Stock
The stock put on refurbs were the next one in line... Totally random. I don't know about "luck"... That's in the eyes of the beholder... The laminated stocks had weaknesses in the wrist and virtually all of them have at least one additional stock bolt in the wrist area. My thoughts are tha...

Re: Recommended method of cleaning old grease
Very hot water and grease cutter (Krud Kutter) worked on hundreds of my rifles. Wipe the excess off and maybe use a plastic scraper to remove thick globs. Then wipe as much grease off as you can. Then dip it and wash it using a soft brush to remove virtually all the grease. I used compressed air to ...

Re: 1940 Izhevsk M38 in Laminated M38 Stock
Funny, I saw a 1940 similar to this one in a laminated stock on GunBroker today. This M-38 was refurbished (triangle 2 stamp - 103rd GRAU Arsenal in Saransk). The stock was added during refurbishment as likely many other parts that were not original to the gun. The original stock, non laminated, eit...

Re: 1931 Izhevsk mosin with imperial eagle?
Yeah, take your screw driver to the shop and check the tang date on the receiver. Could be an antique and this could add a little value and render an FFL transfer mute. Well, probably not for that shop... But, who knows. One thing for sure, based on today's prices it's overpriced by $100. And, it's ...

Re: M44 Rear Sight parts
Is the entire rear sight missing or do you only need a sight leaf? Those are available, or at least they were, from Liberty Tree and likely eBay... Perhaps the whole thing. But, Liberty Tree has been shut down for a couple of weeks... The entire rear sight is another issue... Did you ask the seller ...

I think I said the same thing and qualified my statement that, indeed, pressed escutcheons were used towards the end of the war. But, I choose to call them post war, none-the-less. To each his own.

Re: Mosin stock identification guide?
Now what would a late ww2 stock look like? Any major difference between those and the post war versions? I've heard a lot of people use this "late post war" description and I have no clue what they mean. Post war stocks, early post war (whatever that means), late post war (whatever that m...
