Re: What to look for when buying an M1 Garand?

You can take a pulled projectile to check muzzle wear. However a lot of Mosins were counterbored and a pulled bullet will give you no help there. US 1917s are still pretty much overlooked and they served as our main battle rifle in WW1. Don't forget them.

Re: Reloading Russian ammo

I've been reloading since the early 70's and started reloading because a lot of the calibers I was shooting was simply not available where I lived. I started on a used Lyman Turret press and still point people in that direction when they starting out. About 30 years ago a friend bought a Dillon and ...

People who think M38s and M44s have stiff recoil

Have obviously never fired a Steyr M95 carbine. Finely got mine to the range and with PPU 208gn SP ammo she was a handful. With the rear sight down it was about 1 foot high at 100 yds. With the sight up and using the bottom notch it was pretty much right on at 100 yds. Though it consistently shot a ...

Re: Sometimes the pictures and the discription just don't ad

Thanks for posting the pictures, I still struggle with that. Once the rifle is in hand I'll be interested to see what other markings are on it, if any. The replaced but renumbered buttplate makes me wonder if this rifle went through some sort of post WW1 refurb process.

Sometimes the pictures and the discription just don't add up

Check out this auctionarms auction I just won: Auction: 12829274. The seller says this rifle is a 91/30 but unless I'm missing something the pictures sure look like a M91 to me. Now the rifle has the usual flaws of a rifle that's been there and done that and I doubt it will be a great shooter. Howev...

Re: Pre war or Post war stock?

I think the question here might be: What style stock was being used at the factory in 1941? I'd not be too surprised if 1941 was the transitional year. Pre-wars in the 1st quarter and transitional and wartime in the last quarter.

Thanks for the heads up. I see they are at the. Mansfield, Ohio show this weekend.
That's probably even closer for you. Swing by The Fin on the way home and it will be a day well spent.

Re: Picking up a repro 1863 Remington Zouave Saturday

I'll post some pictures of the rifle and hopefully some pictures of nice targets as well. In looking around I'm more concerned about finding musket caps than suitable powders.

Picking up a repro 1863 Remington Zouave Saturday

This is one of the rifles ones made by Zoli for Navy Arms sometime in the last century. I picked it up used about 20 years ago and after a careful cleaning and inspection suspected that it had probably never been fired. In a CTBF (Complicated Trade Between Friends) the rifle ended up the property of...

Hopefully the space between the breach and the nipple is filled up with the breach plug. Would you want to pocket carry that pistol WITHOUT a trigger guard?

Re: M44 accuracy

For my aging eyes the rear sight seems to make all the difference. The older style rear sight with the slight groove works for me in any rifle configuration. The war time rear sight with it's narrower groove is a struggle. With the exception of my T53 but is has a wider site notch than my M44s. Good...

Re: First Mosins

The first one I bought was in the early 1980s. There was a LGS that specialized in surplus rifles and one day I was looking at the racks and found an ugly bolt action. The owner knew I was a sucker for anything odd in the $50-$100 price range so he said it was Russian and pointed out that as the dat...

Re: Deer Hunters

I have a friend with a private game hunting preserve and just today we were talking about some does he needs to cull out. IF the culling happens at a time I'm available I'll take a '36 Tula 91/30 and my '42 M38 with PPU 150ng SPBT bullets. Range will only be 125 yds or less and I see no reason to ex...

Re: Idea on getting maximum corrosive salts out of the barre

IMHO Windex is popular because it is cheap, comes in a handy squirt bottle, has no bad smell and works when used consistently. I do not use straight Ballistol for cleaning, I use the 8/1 water mix often, called Moose Milk, for cleaning of firearms I've just fired. SO it is probably the water doing m...
