Re: Identification confirmation and value
Your rifle was also built using an older recycled Imperial era receiver. You can see an imperial eagle under the Izhevsk crest on the top receiver flat. That was pretty common in the early 20's

It would have been 7.62x54 but could fire the Finn 7.62x53 as well.

Re: Help Identifying possible M91/30
The K and 7 have an obviously different font on the mag floor plate, bolt and buttplate than the original ones on the barrel. They are force matched parts.

Re: Help needed!
Early Izhevsk dragoons with the type 1 handguard had no sight graduations on the sight base. They were on the handguard itself as weird as that sounds.

Re: Help needed!
The graduations match up to the same distances the Finns stamped on their mosin sight bases when converting to meters from arshins. There were a few different variations in the ways they did it. Ive seen one Finn-used m91 marked identically to yours. Since there's no other Finn traits maybe it was a...

Re: Questions for my 1943 Izhevsk PU
And one more question - Is it hard to find an Izhevsk pu stock online? Is it worth finding one and replace the current Tula stock? Will it be really helpful from the value perspective when I sell it in the future? Even if you found one, due to dimensional variations in manufacturing the PUs, the ch...

Re: Mosin 'Dragoon' oddity
The arsenals absolutely did use older receivers from theirs or there arsenals sometimes. Not uncommon. Sounds like you have a well used non-matching dragoon that simply had a 91/30 front sight installed. My bet would be on a Spanish import.

Re: Are Mosin front-sights durable?
I've seen a couple of m91s and 91/30s that had half of the front sight base broken off. It was from someone trying to force an oversize sight into the dovetail with a big hammer or accidently striking the base instead of the sight when driving the sight out of the dovetail. Since the front sight bas...

Re: Mosin gunsmith needed
Most gunsmiths won't touch a mosin because of the difficulty in removing the barrel and machine work involved in getting a replacement barrel to index properly along with their general view of a mosin being a "cheap junk rifle" The cost wasn't worth it although mosin prices have really gon...

Re: Hex receiver date
1920 is a pretty uncommon date. Lots of turmoil going on during the Russian civil war then. They recycled lots of receivers then so a 1916 receiver on with a 1920 barrel makes perfect sense.

Re: Newbies second post with pic’s
What's needed to determine a fairly rough guess on value is a also a photo of the markings on the chamber such as the year, arsenal marking etc. The ones in the picture are 91/30s that look to have been refurbed. Those are common in general but some can have one little stamp.or.markimg that can real...

Re: Mosin 91/30 hex receiver
Was the rifle deactivated as in unable to be shot? Or just released from military stores for.expoet? That confused me a little.

Re: Finnish M91 in M91/30 laminate stock?
The full length m91 was the most common rifle in Finn service, so there were lots of those needing repair and replacement. It was easier to restart production of those in 1940 than introduce another new model at that time. (The m39 was already in the pipeline) Stocks were already being made and repa...

Re: Finnish M91 in M91/30 laminate stock?
Soviet laminate 91/30 stocks weren't a thing until the 50s. So someone had a sporterized Finn m91 or a barrelled action and stuck in a refurb stock. Finn M91 stocks and handguards are hard to find and are really expensive.
VKT M91 barrels are about 3 inches longer than a 91/30 barrel.

Re: 1945 M38 Izhevsk M38 for sale
Definitely 1943 date. The rough wartime machining on the barrel and receiver along with the partial/weak stamps are traits of wartime mosins. In 45 they were machined and finished back to the prewar standards. Also the bottom of the 5 in 1945 doesn't come as high as the bottom of the 3 in 1943. Just...

Re: 1945 M38 Izhevsk M38 for sale
If you can get a good clear picture of the date on the barrel it would help. It appears to be a poorly stamped 1943 date there as opposed to 1945.

The bolt is also force matched. It lacks the serial number prefix. Nearly all refurbs like this are all force matched so that's expected
