Re: Need Authentication on my PU Sniper
I wondered if it was a non refurb from the look of it....very nice indeed. If refurbed you'd have any part needing repair replaced (stock generally) and everything checked for max/min specs. The scope would be checked and when passed stamped with an arsenal (one of many) stamps and usually a date.…....

Re: Need Authentication on my PU Sniper
All the bits look right...is that a PW Arms import? Can you show a pic of the import stamps. I don't see any refurb marks on the barrel or the scope so it could be an original match.....that would be nice.
That is also a very nice early war stock.....very nice actually.

Re: Bulgarian pine cone marking on Soviet Izhevshevsk?
Are you talking about the triangle marking with the arrow in it? That is the Izhevsk factory stamp they put on smaller parts or whatever. I suspect Ratnik did not comment about it as it is so commonly known. Tula also used the arrow but in a star.....what you see as a pinecone I suspect is the feath...

Re: PU scope. What’s it worth?
Anybody see the PU scopes on apexgunparts.com ? Yup...reasonable price...you can find them on Ebay from Russia from reliable sources....some collect them and I love to shoot my snipers. You have a 1944 Yoshkar Ola scope made at plant NKV no 297...they made over 91 thousand scopes from 43-44 and tha...

Re: is it authentic?
"Everything that came out of an arsenal (and witha known history) has electro pencil markings on it. Except Tulas. Some of Tulas were stamped in numbers so EP was not needed at the time to keep the parts all together during refurbishment." So that begs the point on this rifle then....I was...

Re: is it authentic?
Good post... I had the same basic position you have altho my experience is not very deep. It is very hard to tell unless there are blatant errors or obvious after market pieces. When you have a rifle that looks like a proper sniper and a period scope it comes down to markings that match and even tha...

Re: is it authentic?
You guys are such experts in markings, answer the mans original question. Ask Ratnik, he is an expert….I was simply passing on his articulated knowledge after studying this subject of markings....or yourself, you must be an expert. To my not so expert eye it looks to be a nice arsenal refurb.....th...

Re: is it authentic?
No, simply discussing a marking...the C in a Circle and this Mosin does have that....that is in its favor as an original sniper.wawa wrote:But does this mean that this mosin is not a PU?

Re: is it authentic?
The C in a circle on the barrel has been shown by Ratnik to be an Izhevsk sniper marking through his extensive research of Soviet documents. That was in the recent GB thread we were discussing but I could not locate it to link it. Thanks....should have simply said that myself.... Alex is a great so...

Re: is it authentic?
It is a C within a circle and the circle is the same size as the often seen y in a circle proof mark...normally stamped above/near the factory stamp on the barrel.....the mark in your picture is not it. You can see it in the OP's pics above on the barrel markings shot....it is a clean stamp but slig...

Re: is it authentic?
The scope and mounts look good to me...scope is honest.....it also has a Circle C on the barrel that was on many, but not all, Izhvesk snipers....but, from what I've read, is only on snipers from that factory. It was always up high/towards the front but is found sometimes on the right or left.....m...

Re: Pre Range Question
Have fun....the worst thing that can happen is poor accuracy...question....how does the chamber area look...where the bullet casing seats...is it smooth or pitted? If pitted there can be cycling issues with brass cases that will form to any large pitting areas making round removal/ejection difficult...

Re: First 91/30 Mosin
I only use a neck sizing die....no lube required and very simple. The chamber sizes a casing every time you pull the trigger and the only reason to resize fully would be to use the rounds in different same caliber weapons. Many accuracy shooter only neck size...collet sizing...as the round will seat...

Nice.… easy fix. 'Sticky bolt' can be the result of a few dif things besides cosmoline in the lug area.musketjon wrote:I replaced my springs with new-made springs and the sticky-bolt syndrome disappeared and there have been no failures to fire or extract.

Re: First 91/30 Mosin
Looks like a nice refurb...I know what you mean about the scope/eyes...me too. I enjoy my PU sniper(s) for the same reason but it does not quite have that kind of magnification. There are little tricks the Soviets used on these rifles to enhance accuracy if that is your end state. Shimming and barre...

Re: Replace bolt spring?
For examples sake..... I just swapped out three bolt heads on three different rifles....each one passed the go/no go head space gauge test and I think I'll keep two of them swapped as is...they cycle smoother when fired (snap cap). BTW, I just bought a few on ebay ( I do not sell these, no affiliati...

Re: Replace bolt spring?
"You're still describing a rifle that has varnish in the chamber/ sticky bolt." Sticky bolt can come from more than varnish in the chamber.... many Mosins have replacement bolts/bolt heads. Bolt heads that were broken in by another receiver that can lead to lugs seating unevenly (more pre...
