Not really that rare or special but mine are a 1944-dated Izhevsk PU and a 1926 Izhevsk ex-Dragoon, love them both.

Re: Another thread trying to verify a M91-30 sniper rifle
I like the CH stamp below the serial. Somebody thought they were an expert. Thats not CH, thats GCH, and is the imports translation on the crylic prefix on the s/n Isn't the Cyrillic prefix ПУ?,. which translates as "PU" The GCH appears to be a bad translation of the Cryllic "ny"...

Re: UK AKM
It's a Russian Dragunov, produced at Izhmash.People tend to confuse the Dragunov and the Romanian PSL but the Dragunov has a milled receiver and short stroke gas system whereas the PSL is essentially a big AK.tjtM38 wrote:I like that sniper rifle. Romanian?

Re: UK AKM
Cheers mate  AK's and AR type rifles are quite popular despite no gas system, though you can get pretty quick with a straight-pull AK ;).Pretty much anything from .17HMR to .50BMG plus goes regarding bolt action rifles so plenty of choice there and semi-auto shotguns are allowed as are sem...

UK AKM
Not semi-auto I know, as we aren't trusted to have a functioning gas system here in the UK, but here is my "Soviet-ised" Romanian AKM. Would love to have it semi-auto but hey, we make do with what we can ;) http://i66.tinypic.com/2uppetk.jpg I have also fitted a PBS-1 rear sight as I somet...

Re: 1944 Izhevsk PU Showcase submission
I think the fakes outnumber the real ones now. You can count on finding a fair amount of fakes for sale up here. The real ones stand out from the rest, and the prices are way higher! To be honest I dropped lucky with mine as the shop I bought it from knew next to nothing about Mosins, as far as the...

Re: 1944 Izhevsk PU Sniper refurbishment
I wonder if our rifles were from the same batch imported into German by Waffen Frankonia?, apparently the previous owner of mine had it for nearly 30 years so the timeframe isn't far off.

Re: 1944 Izhevsk PU Showcase submission
I'm unfamiliar with how things are regarding gun availability & ownership in the UK. I'm sure getting any kind of gun is far more difficult than here in the US. It's a fine PU rifle for sure, but would be a nearly exact duplication with 3 other 44 PU rifles already on the showcase. Thanks for s...

Re: Preservation or restoration?
Restoration means you made it look like arsenal new, that stock looks like you pulled it off the floor of my barn and cleaned it up a bit, no worries, nobody's going to think that's anything but a repair. Good job with the split, what exactly is water based varnish? I am familiar with that poly cra...

Re: 1944 Izhevsk PU Sniper refurbishment
Very similar to mine which is also a '44 Izhevsk with a scrubbed scope serial number that hasn't been restamped but has a faint "4" still visible.Your rifle also has the same "WF" stamp on the barrel shank near the receiver, this is the mark of the German firearms import/export c...

1944 Izhevsk PU Showcase submission
Hi from the UK :) I thought I'd submit some pics of my 1944 Izhevsk PU sniper that I picked up a few weeks back.I when to a local-ish shop to pick up some bullets and powder but spotted this in the racks and had to have it as it was a steal by UK prices!. She is a '44-dated Izhevsk PU with all stamp...

1926 Izhevsk ex-Dragoon Showcase submission
Hi from the UK, Here are some pics of my 1926 Izhevsk ex-Dragoon that I have owned for a few years now.The serial numbers on the barrel shank, bolt and buttplate appear to match and the magazine floorplate has the same number but is electro-pencilled. The bolt assembly has a mix of Izhevsk and Tula ...

My Grandfather served in the 6th Battalion of the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry (K.S.L.I) from 1915 to 1918, he fought at Ypres, The Battle of the Somme, Passchendaele and Cambrai. He was wounded on four seperate occassions and returned to the front each time.In 1918 he transferred to The Machine G...

Re: 1914 Izhevsk 91/30 with a 1925 barrel
Putting the R at the end of the date is a Russian grammar thing. Russians always include the word year god (goht) (year). The plural years would be gody (goh-dih) (years) or goda (gah-dah) (years). That is what the r (which is not an English R) symbolizes. Did I get that right guys? Pretty much spo...

Re: 1914 Izhevsk 91/30 with a 1925 barrel
Could "31" be the year it was updated to 91/30 spec and became an ex-Dragoon? I have a '26 Izhevsk ex-Dragoon.... I'm far from an expert but from what I read here the (r) often stands for year so if its a **r I would think there's a good chance it was dated at a significant time... ie: Re...

Re: 1914 Izhevsk 91/30 with a 1925 barrel
The only stamp I see that may have known meaning is the (31r) on the bottom of the barrel, "r" usually stands for "year". Maybe a refurbishment date? Could be wrong. I know the mark under the Izhevsk bow and arrow is a refurbishment mark as well. Other than that the other random...
