Re: Mosin 'Dragoon' oddity
For whatever reason, I'm having trouble showing pics. Says file too large, have never had a problem before. Any suggestions?

Mosin 'Dragoon' oddity
Been a while since I've been on here, but I've just acquired one of the most unusual Mosin Nagants I've ever had. This is not an ‘ex Dragoon’, but an actual Dragoon (?) Features are as follows: 1928 Izhevsk barrel mated to a 1921 Tula receiver Not one matching number, not an import mark to be found ...

Peruvian crested M1891 Argentine carbine
I need some info here! Last Saturday I found this M1891 Argentine carbine at a flea market. I was just about to walk by it, as I already have two, but I just can't pass up a Mauser carbine. I pick it up, and lo and behold, instead of the Argentine crest, I see a Peruvian crest. While I'm thinking 'w...

Type 53 butt markings
Picked up this otherwise unremarkable 1954 T53 yesterday. Would have walked by it were it not for the two painted Chinese characters on the butt...I've never seen this on other '53s. Anyone out there happen to know what they translate to? Also there is a 2 inside a triangle on the receiver, almost s...

Re: Non import 1934 Izhevsk 91/30
If you run your finger over the receiver, you can kind of feel a bit of unevenness...so I'm guessing a minor scrub. Appears to have been done quite a long time ago.

Non import 1934 Izhevsk 91/30
Picked up this non import marked 1934 Izhevsk today. It is completely devoid of import marks, and apparently never went through a complete refurb as the rear sight base is not pinned. Bolt matches barreled receiver, those are the only matching numbers. Nice cartouche on right of butt, some small dec...

I think you may be on the money about the twine marks!racerguy00 wrote:The spiral pattern on the wood is pretty neat. I've seen that on other rifles that had been stored in-the-wrap with twine. The twine had made the pattern.

Re: Cossack marked 91/38 carbine
I know the T in a circle gets a lot of press regarding Czech origin, but does anyone recognize the arrow stamp? I've seen it on a few examples, but not all. Also, this one has no KK marking anywhere. There is also a number, 59106, on the left side of the butt. Anyone have one with a similar number? ...

Re: Cossack marked 91/38 carbine
I spotted this in my LGS the other day. There was a beautifully patina'd 1916 Tula M91 (non Finned) and this, which I thought at first was an M91/59 due to the wood color. But then I spotted the screwed in escutcheons, and knew there was something else to it. So I picked it up, saw the markings, and...

Cossack marked 91/38 carbine
Sometimes the milsurp gods decide to favor you. A 91/38 carbine that began life as a 1909 Izhevsk Cossack rifle..needless to say it came home with me today.

Re: Mosin 91/30 pre war laminate stock??
I'm actually not a big fan of laminate stocks, just don't like the look of them. As I stated earlier, those 'lines' had me going for a bit, and if it was some sort of early laminate, I was about to totally change my tune. But it is, sadly, no ultra rare experimental stock. Either way, its a great 'b...

Re: Mosin 91/30 pre war laminate stock??
Took it apart again today, looked hard for any lines, none there. Its definitely solid, I'm sure now. But it had me going there for a bit.

Re: Mosin 91/30 pre war laminate stock??
That was certainly my thought on them as well. However, looks as though you may be right about the grain. It certainly looks solid under the buttplate (didn't even think to look under there)
Well so much for my possible pre war experimental laminate stock!
