If you run your finger over the receiver, you can kind of feel a bit of unevenness...so I'm guessing a minor scrub. Appears to have been done quite a long time ago.

Sometimes the milsurp gods decide to favor you. A 91/38 carbine that began life as a 1909 Izhevsk Cossack rifle..needless to say it came home with me today.

I'm actually not a big fan of laminate stocks, just don't like the look of them. Took it apart again today, looked hard for any lines, none there. Its definitely solid, I'm sure now. But it had me going there for a bit.

That was certainly my thought on them as well. However, looks as though you may be right about the grain. It certainly looks solid under the buttplate (didn't even think to look under there)
Well so much for my possible pre war experimental laminate stock!
