My 91/30

I got this locally from my favorite purveyor of firearms. Store owner was holding this one but the guy who wanted it never showed until I strolled through the door. i told the owner I wanted one and would wait until he had some more. He said it was mine if I did the paperwork. THAT was EASY! Paid $119 and opened the box. Only knew the bore looked very good, the bolt locked up nicely and I had a Izhevsk round barrel with a date that looked like 1942. Brought it home, disassembled, cleaned and read and read and read many posts on this great site. Bought lots of ammo from SG and all the cleaning tools and "condiments" recommended for this rifle. I'm a pistol guy who bought a Mossberg 44US from the CMP a few years ago. I just got around to cleaning it and took it to the range the end of September for the first time. Lights out at 50 yards and so much fun! Instead of buying an AR right now, I decided to stay with the Milsurp flavor and wanted something affordable and high powered. Found this site like so many others and now have this beauty. After re-assembly and cleaning, I washed the stock with Murphy's Oil Soap and then wiped with Lemon Oil. Can't believe something this old looks so good. Salt mines, go figure....

Nice brass bands on the hand guard but the date looked strange. It says 1942 but the barrel surface was roughed up and was was altered by the 19--. If you look at the 4, there is a 2 slightly higher. 1922? Somebody had a bad day in the engraving department? Anyhow, she looks purdy and will shoot this shortly. Thanks for a great site!

:D :D Welcome to the forum and nice pics of an interesting rifle! :D :D
Maybe with a piece of chalk or something you can make the stamping on the receiver more visible.....wax crayon may do it , too.

And please check the protrusion of your firing pin, before you shoot her!!!!!

Sweet, nice rifle. One of my first M91/30s was a 1942. Rough year for them. Mine has the expedited receiver. I can't really tell if your's is too. So if you were going to get an AR and got this instead that means you got some extra cash laying around just begging to be spent on a rack mate for this one.

Good eye and thanks for the comment! When I checked the firing pin after re-assembling the bolt, the pin passed under both the second and third notch on the all purpose rifle tool. I had to re-adjust the pin so it would not go through the second notch and that is why the screw at the end of the bolt is not flush.
