hello, I bought this rifle at a gun show over the weekend. this might sound familiar because another new guy here just posted the same thing. I was at the same show with him and bought the same gun right after he did. So from what I have found out by poking around this forum to find out information on it. The gun seems to be from 1927 with the hex receiver. now maybe you guys can help me I am not sure where it is from or what arsenal is it from by the markings. the stock is a laminated no marks on the stock came with everything in the picture. Like the other guy got the gun for $145. From the sound of it both of us got a good deal. I am going to have this checked out before I go to the range with it. let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Nice looking Izhevsk ex-dragoon. What are the marks next to the date(right side next to the r). :Drool1:

We got ours back to back from the same guy at the show, he was only selling Mosins. He had maybe 15 really clean round receiver ones, and a handful of hex receiver laminate ones. After browsing the show and seeing a lot of rough still cosmo'ed ones for higher prices, I had to jump on the hex laminate one he had out. If anyone wants his contact info PM me and I will pass it along (southwestern NY).

Yes pre 30, markings with the old script also. There is a chance to get a 91/30 maybe from before but unlikely, Very unlikely from 1927. maybe later from 28 or 29. I have a 31 dragoon. They continued along till 32 with those. Late dragoons are a nice find. Any dragoon (real, not an ex or updated) is a nice find actually.

The mark next to the r seems to be just a vertical line.

on another note I was prompted by breckenridge to check the serial numbers. I did and they all match and are stamped. So from what I have read and heard this one has not been mixed with different parts.

Well....no :bwink:

It is a "refurbished" rifle. The parts were refinished then the rifle re- assembled and the serial numbers re-stamped to match the serial number on the barrel shank and some were electro penciled. You will notice a difference in the "fonts" used on the letters and numbers between the barrel shank and the other parts. This was called "forced Matched". Sometimes parts can be matching to the original and the fonts all match and this is rarer to find.

It also has a laminated stock, which was a replacement stock made and put on post WWII.

You can read up on refurbished Mosins here.

It's a excellent looking rifle and a ex-dragoon to boot! 8-) 8-)

ah okay. Well any information on it is great. I am really excited to make sure its in good firing condition and shoot it. And I plan on leaving it the way it is. Its a great looking rifle the way it is.

Love to hear that and i agree. They are great looking rifles the way they are. Check it over and check all parts then check headspace and then shoot it. There is not too much that can go wrong on these. :D
