39 Tula 91/30 & a great garage sale day

Post by Rongo »

With the rise in prices on Mosin Nagant's one cannot pass up a sale just to at least look. Local retailer Fleet Farm was running a sale this week & since I was in the neighborhood I swung into the store just to see what they had available. First one I looked at was this one.... A 1939 Tula 91/30, Red lettering, refurb prefix matching in correct Tula Pre-war stock with accessories for $89.99. Hard to pass that up. The rest were typical refurbs so I opted for this... My second 39 Tula & 3rd 39 overall, but I see no harm in having a few duplicates.

Also hit some Garage sales with my beautiful bride to look for things for her.... Instead it was guy sale day everywhere we went. Got a retractable shop light for $5 & even the bulb worked! A set of 4 old pliers for $5 (Can never have enough & I love the old ones) & a bunch of Shotgun shell boxes (empty) for free & also some 16ga Shells for $5 each. He had a lot of 20 & 12 also but the 16ga are getting hard to find & at $5, it was a deal & I got every box. He even tossed in a half empty box for free.

Some Pictures on the day....

And the Garage sale finds...

Free Empties!!

5 1/2 boxes of 16ga... 2 boxes are custom 2 1/2" lite loads & of course a complete old box of Winchester

$10 for the lot

Also got my wife some wicker baskets, new scrapbook & a few other misc. items. A really fun day. :vcool:

Wow nice rifles! And looks like you had a good day at the garage sales :)

Dang Rongo, that's a nice 91/30  I like the impression the star left on the wood under the tang. Nice repair at the nose also.
Good eye on the shells and tools :vcool:

Remember what happened to me and the 1939 Tula? First I buy a 1939 Tula because I don't have that date, then I find a DDR marked rifle that I must have and it's also a '39 Tula, then I find a MO marked rifle and I must have an MO for the collection and again it's a '39 Tula, then comes the sale Chris at Trinity was running, Mosins for $55, I told him to send them, one was a hex, two more were 1943 Izhevsk and the last of course was a '39 Tula. That is a nice one, and I probably would have grabbed it also, the shotshells were a great deal, but that shop light is a good one. USA made Cordomatic, looks to be late 60's vintage, not some Chinese made piece of shit, I would have grabbed that so fast it would look like it simply vanished :)

Yeah... I saw that shoplight & snagged it right up. Already have it mounted to the ceiling in the garage & was using it this afternoon under the old Ford Truck. I love that light. :vcool: :vcool:

She had fun as well.... I got her some nice baskets, a brand new scrapbook for $2 & some other misc. things at the sales. Also took her to lunch, the Apple Orchard & then a movie in the evening. It was a really fun day for the both of us.

I noticed you said with "red" number or letters on the rear sights? Is this something unique or just something the importer did. I have two rifles like that and thought maybe the guy issued the rifle did it. But nice fine though and garage sales are great for finding reloading supplies and tools... :vcool:

Not the importer or the last guy. It was done at refurb by one of the arsenals doing the refurbs. :D

Good deal Ron. I have a couple of '39's also. This area is alive with garage sales. I never see anything but baby clothes. I keep trying though.
