1937 Mosin

I was browsing in a pawn shop today and came across a 1937 Mosin with the star of the Tula arsenal. Round receiver. It appeared to be in good shape, stock solid, not rusting. The bolt was a dark color (not bright silver like my 1942). I didn't get a chance to check the bore and it did not have a bayonet or any other accessories. He was asking $149.95 but would take $100.00. From this sketchy description, does this sound like a good buy? Any help appreciated. I am new to the Mosin game.

wolfstein, any mosin for a hundy plus tax out the door is a good buy in my world, unless bubba got hold of it. If the bore is kinda cruddy it most likely will clean up. :2cents:

Look on the left side of the barrel in front of the receiver for a box with a SA in it. The year and blued bolt make it possible it could be a Finn capture.

If its not a Bubba, I would buy it.

Did he say it was a blued bolt? I wondered, but thought it could be just dark from lack of polish. That is why pictures are so important. Without pics we could say it's probably a fair deal, but with pictures we could say that it was the best darn deal in town. Redspoon, what's a hundy? I been meaning to ask. I am working on a Hundy brake job as we speak.

Isn't a hundy one of those Korean cars?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. A Hundy Sonata.

Sounds like it could be a Spanish Civil War mosin, they sometimes have a nice patina on the bolt.
Please check out the folliwing link and compare it to the Tula. In either case $100 is great if it isn't chopped. Be sure to note the serial number!

I would also check for SCW but would probly buy it anyway unless it was a trashed refurb.

Do any of the Mosin's have holes instead of "slots" for the sling? The one I am looking at has holes surrounded by a metal plate. Similar to the drawing below, but not at all to scale.

Sounds like it is missing the hangers. SCW indication. Des can probably post a picture.

Sorry i missed the party. I was searching high and low for all my reloading stuff and found half of it. It sounds to me like it is a finned Tula and should be bought right now. 100 bucks is a straight steal for a finn these days. BUYBUYBUYBUYBUYBUYBUYBUYBUYBUYBUYBUYBYBY

I told him to buy it over half an hour ago, he should be carrying it out to his car right about now.

If it is a Refurb with those obvious Finnish sling swivel plates that means it was a Finn capture and was recaptured by the Russians and refurbed to make us happy as collectors. Take the $100 and go buy the thing before someone else does. Bill :)

If you don't buy it, PM one of us (Pick Me! Pick Me!) :chuckles: so we can contact the pawn shop and buy it.

Hey , Guys, it just occurred to me:
Wouldn't a smilie enhance a push to buy something discussed asap, including 2 stages up for importance?
Just my 2 cents
