I thought I would post some pics of my favorite Mosin Nagant rifle. It was
one of my first Mosin rifles. I bought it from a Finn Mosin collector with the tag name
of Rifles Roy. I call this rifle Hartonen for obvious reasons. This rifle
was issued to a Finn soldier named Hartonen and he carved his initials in the
finger groove of the stock.
Meet "Hartonen", my all original straight stocked M39. Shoots like a dream.
Very nice rifle Chris and I do believe this one will be a hit. The stock is real nice. Darryl and a few others here have quite a few with stocks that have that tiger strip look. They sure do stand out.

I notice your rifle does not have the sanded dry looking stock finish on the wood but the shinier commercial type finish, nice.

What a nice Finn, Thanks for posting this for all to see. I want a nice Finn or ten to ad to my collection...Maybe I can add some to my collection next year at tax time.

Wow, hartonen is one sweet rifle. I have seen Finns with initials, but this is the first with a whole name. I like that a lot, and looking at the name on there can really make the mind wander, to a cold frozen place, a frozen hell.
Chris, I came back this morning for another look. It's even better the second time. I was looking at the nicks in the metal on the bottom of the magazine and thinking how nice it is to have honest wear like that from use. Most likely from battle. That rifle has so much character. You are fortunate to have it. Straight stock 41's like that have never crossed my path.
You would be hard pressed to find a M39 that shoots badly, very nice rifle

Have you ever done any searches on the net to try and find the guy? These rifles were in use as training rifles at least into the early 1980's, he may still be alive.

Welcome aboard Chris! Man Rifle's Roy! I haven't heard that handle but once in the last few years for sure you are dating yourself! He was as I remember quite the character although he had a good heart under all the bluster. Very nice well worn finish on that rifle, I have a few like that as well. That seems to be the finish on a well travelled and used M39. Sort of mirrors the care and use it got from the soldier who used it. The ones I have like that seem to not mind rain or snow and being as I never have put anything on them I wonder sometimes if they had some kind of wax protectant on them? After they have been around Balistol for awhile it would be quite impossible to tell I am afraid. I shoot everything I own so they see the range and that helps the bores through proper cleaning and oiling the bores and their after range rubdown. Very nice rifle with no doubt a story to tell.
