1960 Type-53 Carbine 2 type of Stock Serial Numbers

Post by Hobe Sound Falcon »

I have owned 3 Type-53 Carbines. 2 1960's, and my 1956. I was lucky that all 3 Had Matching Number's, and execpt for the 1956 Gun, all still had Good Finish and Condition. My first 1960 had the light Tan Colored Stock, and the serial Number was stamped on the Buttplate. My second 1960 made Gun, had that dark Chocklate Brown Colored Stock, and the Serial Number was stamped on the left rear Side of the Stock, like an SKS. This Change must have come as the SKS came into full Production, and they needed a place to put the Stock Serial Number, so they chose the Side. Not knowing how the 1960 Serial Number's went, as they were compleatly different than the 1953-56 made Gun's. I have no way to know when they did the switch to the Side of Stock. Here of the Photo's of my Dark Stock one, you can just make out the Serial Number, they show up better on the Lighter Colored Stock's. How many of you all have one or the other, or both? Paul :!:

Nice '53, never came across any of the later built ones, mine are all 1955.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
