i just purchaced a new mosin nagant from my local pawn shop. it is a 1939 izy with a hardwood stock. but it has a wrist reinforcement screw in the stock located just behind the trigger. i can not find any info on this configuration.

what i have found is that the m38 m44 and the laminated m91/30 can have this screw/blot but not in the hardwood stock

any new info will help greatly

While REALLY new to all this, I have not seen a second bolt on non-laminated stocks. This looks (to me anyway) to be a WW II stock.

Mosins with screw on escutcheons are pre-war. Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to what the Russians did. with their firearms or their politics.

Unless those stocks are on refurbs! Then you can just about throw away the book on them because they become reused stocks from an older vintage and their history is totally blotted by timely unknown change. Most of what we state on here is sketchy in nature and really in the form of an educated guess. I have seen through bolts on so many different vintage rifles now that nothing seems to throw me anymore and becomes just part of the Mosin forest. Bill
