I am told that at some point yesterday New York City had the worst air quality of any city in the world, beating out places in India, and China for that dubious honor. That pretty much went for the whole part of the state, maybe the whole state as the Canadian wildfires smoke came down to ground level. I heard about this crap happening on the west coast with the constant wildfires there, but in the 300+ years right back to the time of the Dutch it's never happened here unless it was a very localized event that came and went with some small fire close by. Blood red sun, heavy haze, the appearance of what looked like a light fog, and the smell of smoke. Looks like another day of it today, is there anything left in Canada. or is it all burnt up?

Nah, Canada is a huge place!

Our smoke out here is maybe a little less then that at times. But ours has lasted 2 1/2 months at one time.

'The problem is, Canada is just like California. It won't clear out the brush around the trees in their forests because of environmental crap. If you try to here, they will block you. So when there is a fire, they put it out right away. The brush builds up (called "fuel").

Natures way is to start fires (usually lightning) and it burns off the brush naturally and goes out on it own. In other words, leave it alone. But here they will put out those fires without letting nature finish the job. When we do get a fire and it gets out of control, it burns like Hell because of the "fuel" and it spreads 10 times faster. So, either let nature do it's thing or, clear out the brush. Calif and Canada won't do that.

End results, HUGE fires and a ton of smoke.We haven't had any big fires this year yet. But fire season is just about here.

That was yesterdays sunset here, bad shit that they tell us will go on until Saturday sometime.

I am surrounded by commercial pine forests, ranging from a few acres to tens of thousands of acres. Every Spring they do control burns and that gives us a few days of hazy smoky weather, but we do not have the kinds of forest fires that others experience. It is a pain, we gripe about it, but it is better a lot of small, controlled fires than the inevitable "big one."

Times like these you gotta put a wet bandana on you face and crawl everywhere you go. D.C. is in a smoke screen it would be a good time for some people there to disappear.

Yesterday it lifted, but I hear things are still burning up there so I am sure it will be back. With all the burning forests up there I am guessing we can expect the price of maple syrup to skyrocket, and a lot of large bears will be moving south.

Too bad it wasn't pot fields, then Mew York might be a happy place to be for awhile...

The smoke haze returned today, not as thick as last time, but noticeable. Smells like charcoal burning, how much is left to burn?
