I shot a stranger today

A Russian stranger at that. My son made a smoking deal on a 91/30 on Friday, a '36/52 MO Izhevsk. The previous owner bought it 10 years or so ago and it had sat in his closet ever since. We shot it for a while until the mosquitos started winning. It was fun, I bet it had been a year since I shot a Mosin. I had forgotten what a satisfying punch the old rifles give. We were shooting at about 75 yards and the sights were dead on. (which surprised me)
I brought a ammo pouch with assorted surplus on stripper clips and some of what we were shooting was very hot. It was dinging our best steel targets, and slaughtered the 1" thick mild steel blind flange that I repurposed as a target. It was penetrating the mild steel about 5/8" inch deep.

It was all good!

Shit, for a moment there I thought I would be able to boast I knew a fugitive wanted for first degree murder. MO rifle, not as cool a find as there were back when we thought they were for fighting zombies, or space aliens, but still cool enough in these days of little to no availability or selection. I found a lot of the refurbs were pretty close to being dead on with the bayonet attacked, and some that were like that even without it.

No offense. I have plenty of rust parts myself. I have tried just about everything from WD-40 to Viagra and nothing seems to help. It won't be long before I am ready for recycling.
