He fought to the very end

This photo should serve as a constant reminder to us all about the inherent risks of hunting.
We may never know what happened to this hunter, did a bear claim his moose kill? Was the moose wounded and put up a fight? Part of the story is told by a rifle with a jammed cartridge and a knife who’s blade was broken off at the handle found amongst the bones... whatever the case, He fought, to the very end.

Or the " dead" moose suddenly came to life as the hunter leaned in close. Moose are dangerous, much more so when wounded and in pain. Not a bear, the bones are too intact, and still mostly in the one location. Predation hasn't scattered the remains too much, staged photo?

I don't think it's staged. Here's another look.

If his bones were under the moose then it's not a mystery other than his name. He died because he had to look at his weapon instead of using it to defend his life. Dirty chamber maybe, or broken extractor. The moose lived just long enough to take revenge on the man who killed it. There is a reason why big African game hunters loved the double rifle so much in an era when bolt actions were readily available, that second shot when you have only a second or two to get it off.

A previous post by Sonny had almost the same ending, apparently moose hunting is deadly!

Good eye sir I forgot about that video but yes it all makes sense now and that could very well be what happened to Mr. Bones.

Big Foot killed and ate both of them right there.

Just my theory.

People get attacked by wounded white tails every year, they can kill a man too.
