Navy Arms 1861 Colt Navy Replica

If it fires black powder, it is discussed here.

Navy Arms 1861 Colt Navy Replica

Post by tjtM38 »

I bought this revolver way back in 1984 at a gun show for $95.00. I shot it some until the trigger and stop spring broke. Replacement parts were hard to get back then for some reason and the trigger springs on these early Pietta revolver imports were weak. Thanks to Dixie Gun Works in Union City, TN I was able to acquire Pietta parts and screws. I worked on it today after receipt of a new set of nipples and the required spring, as well as replacing the front trigger guard screw and couple of others that were messed up. Think I have some Hornady .375 round balls and #11 caps, so I plan to shoot it real soon. I know a lot more about the revolver now than I did in 1984, but I haven't shot black powder percussion revolver in many years. Should be an experience.

Pietta has vastly improved quality control since then, I remember the broken springs, and soft metal, I got parts from Numrich arms back then, they are not far from here.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

I have done some business over the years with Numrich. They are very good; sometimes not the cheapest, but I have never gotten any bad parts from there. Dixie Gun Works seems to specialize in black powder and replica firearms and they are relatively close to me.

I have done a lot of business with Dixie, I was heavily collecting replica revolvers and such during the first years of the 21st century, but I have had various BP shooters for many years before that. Dixie has a lot more than just guns. Numrich had a retail store back in the 90's selling all sorts of surplus firearms. It's closed now, but back in the happy time it was a candystore for milsurp collectors.

Navy Arms 1861 Colt Navy Replica

I need a 1861 like that. I did buy 4 different revolvers, 2 of which are 36 caliber and I really enjoy shooting the 36, but mine are 1851 Colt Navies. I think the primary difference is the barrel being octagonal on the 1851's. In the picture the 1851 is on top, with the Walker in the middle, and bottom is a 1860 Colt Army with the fluted cylinder. These 3 are Uberti's. Image

I plan to buy another cap and ball revolver. This time I think it will be an Uberti; probably an 1851 Navy in .36 Cal.
