My Romanian M44 has a lightly pitted bore.
After intense cleaning the rifle shoots worse now than before the major cleaning.
My question is, since I have been using.311 dia. Bullets, should I step up to a .312 ?

Re: Pitted bore
How many rounds fired since cleaning it?
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

How much worse ? 12 inch groups at 20 yd ?, or 1/2 inch bigger group @ 75 yd. You Tried different ammo brands ? These carbines aren't target rifles, if your getting a 5 inch group or less at 100 that's about average I think. If you use some clean ammo the pitting will fill with copper somewhat if you just run a dry or oil patch thru after shooting. If the pitting is in the grooves it shouldn't affect it.Fr ameman1949 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 8:11 am #1 Pitted bore on M44

That’s my plan. I’m going to try my reloads in a different rifle to get a comparison in groups. Then I’m going to let the M44 dirty up a bit and see if my groups tighten.
I’m also seeing some overpressure signs on my primers. A tiny bit of cratering around the firing pin dent and flattened primer faces.
Time to back my loads down a bit.
