Welcome to the board, as a rule I don't do rare or one of stuff, I prefer rifles used by the grunts that win wars, the ordinary infantry rifle. Finn M38, Hungarian PU, late date M39's, about as "rare" as I go.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

All of my rare mosins are carbines:

1893 and 1894 Chatellerault 91/38s: 2 out of 9 known.

1941 PL marked m38: Marking is partially scrubbed but only one I’ve ever seen.

Hungarian M44s instructie: Only one I’ve ever seen...though honestly haven’t searched all that hard trying to find another.

Original matching SA marked 1939 m38 in first-pattern stock: One of very few but don’t know numbers.

Russian-refurbed New England Westinghouse m38.

I love oddballs. I like owning something that no one else or very few have.ImageImage

Dang I'm super jelly of those chatelleruralt, tgats the first I've heard or seen of that. My Chate m91 has a really odd eagle on receiver. Only thing I could try to top yours with would be a fox arms receiver m44 that I let my friend get. Or my project 1891 date lol. Very cool!!

Not necessarily rare, but my oddest would be this M28, with the oddities being...

M27 front barrel band

Modified (perhaps while in the field) rear band attachment, as it uses 1 small screw on each side vs 1 larger screw all the way through

41 marking on the stock behind the trigger guard

Not really that rare or special but mine are a 1944-dated Izhevsk PU and a 1926 Izhevsk ex-Dragoon, love them both.

Tanners_m91 you have an 1891 dated one? Can you post a picture of the barrel markings? Those hardly ever turn up and we'd all love to see.

All of my Mosins are rare, they are all one of a kind, and I am the only one who owns them. I never had the funding or the desire to go unicorn hunting, but I do admire the rifles of those who do.

But in the spirit of the post, the M-27 is among to top of my modest hoard. Maybe a B barrel M-39? '41 Marked Dragoon? I have one, that has both Tula and Izhevsk markings on the barrel shank, it is odd, but I don't know if it is valuable. Maybe my most valuable Soviet rifle is not a Mosin at all but a run of the mill SVT-40. I don't know anymore which guns are more rare.

Hey, ha yes I've got a completely stripped barrel that looks to be 1891 date. I found in a antique shop in GA. Its hid at the shop as I'm trying to be sneaky about it as people as to buy. Haha only problem is i cant find another parts mosin to build it.

I've always thought I got oddball mosin, strange mark chat 1893, 41 stamp dragoon, Austrian unit marked, finn cap, and SCW 1905 dragoon. Awesome to see what everyone has

Best check the rules here Tanners, we don't condone building Mosins. This is a preservation forum, we leave them as we find them.

Oh ya I dont like building random and haven't. I'm a purist ha. I just mean it's worth trying to restore a 1891 considering the rarity. I just mean building as its basicly a barrel atm.
