Reloading x54 for hunting

Does anyone do any reloading for the Mosin for hunting? I'd be curious as to what bullets you use for deer or elk. Hoping to draw an elk tag next season and want to get a head start on working up a hunting load.

I don't hunt with the Mosin Nagant. However, I have loaded the Hornady #3130 174 grain RN bullet with PPU cases and IMR 4895 or 4064. The .312 diameter bullet shot really well in my M91/30. I tried a lighter bullet (Hornady 150 grain) and it did not shoot as good. The 174 grain also is a great bullet for .303 British.

If you are keeping your shots to 100 yards or less, and you should be, .308 diameter bullets will be fine. I prefer Nosler partitions, 150 or 165 for deer, I would use 180's for elk, I used 200's for moose. (In a .30-06, I didn't have any Mosins back then) If you insist on .311 diameter, Sierra makes a 180 Pro Hunter that would work well. Barnes makes a .311 TSX 150 that would more then suffice for deer.
