Kokura Type 97 Sniper rifle
Kind of stumbled into this one but I am glad I did, all numbers matching and original except for the butt plate and the reproduction Monopod.
Now to find a nice Kokura 2.5x scope for it.

Very crisp. Surprising given it's character.

Nice one MT, I don't see any import stamps. The cuts across the mum indicate that it was done by the soldier it was issued to so nobody else would deface it and cause shame on the emperor.

Re: Kokura Type 97 Sniper rifle
Thanks gentlemen, nope , no import marks, the original butt plate was all rusty from sitting on its end on carpet in a closet for god knows how many years so the previous owner replaced it. ( wish he had kept it though) Scopes are available but Kokura issued scopes are harder to find than Nagoya issued scopes.

What do the scopes run typically?Miller Tyme wrote:Thanks gentlemen, nope , no import marks, the original butt plate was all rusty from sitting on its end on carpet in a closet for god knows how many years so the previous owner replaced it. Re: Kokura Type 97 Sniper rifle
They start around $1,200.00 and go up from there depnding on condition, ascessories, and Mfg. I figure a very nice Kokura issued scope with the scope case will be around 2K for a common Mfg.ffuries wrote:What do the scopes run typically?Miller Tyme wrote:Thanks gentlemen, nope , no import marks, the original butt plate was all rusty from sitting on its end on carpet in a closet for god knows how many years so the previous owner replaced it. WOW, I figured high, but didn't go high enough apparently. Good luck in finding one.Miller Tyme wrote:They start around $1,200.00 and go up from there depnding on condition, ascessories, and Mfg. Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Kokura Type 97 Sniper rifle
Timing is everything they say , and good timing and a little bit of luck has paid off for me. I found my Kokura scope this past weekend, ( only 119 off my s/n) complete with carrying case, lense brush, lense rag, and original Japanese information sheet. Now to get a new rubber eye cup and I am in business.

I can thank the rain for that, as long as the river is up there will be no boating.

Very nice. I didn't think you would leave that one scopeless for long.
