Picked up my first M44

Nothing special, but it is my first. Believe it or not it has been tough to locate one in my area that someone didn't want $300 for. I had to get my C&R license and buy one off the net.

'44 Ishevsk. Been counterbored, but the bore is like a mirror with good rifling still present. At least I know this rifle has been well used and might have some dark history to it.

Stock isn't as pretty as my 91/30, but I'll live.

I'm trying to just get one of each variation. The 91-30 is a '38 Tula. I've got a '26 Ishevsk Hex on the way. Now time for an M38! and then a 91/59....and a Type 53....and.....

Good find, yes, M44 prices are on the rise, you are not finding them for under a hundred bucks anymore. The M38 will probably set you back even more as it started getting harder to find a good two years before the M44.

Tell me about it. I missed one last week that sold for $178 or so. I kicked myself for not bidding.

Cool. You got the cleaning rod, too. It looks to be in great shape.

The refurbs come through with the cleaning rods intact, it's the type 53's and some of the issued M44's that tend to be missing them. $178 is a great price for a M44 these days, to bad you missed it, but another will come along.

Very nice! I'm thinking about getting my C&R. How long did it take to get yours after you applied?

Six months, but this is New York, things are different here for gun owners.

Them are both Beauties! I like your collection strategy as well, even with the rising cost of some Mosins, they are all pretty much affordable as milsurps go these days. Semper Fi, Rob

Yeah, I'm not going to go after the really collectible stuff. I just figure one of each major variety would suffice. I might stop after the m38 and just leave it at two rifles and two carbines.
