This will be fun to watch! I would love to participate but I am still on the hunt for a 28/30. I can live vicariously through this thread for a while though!

My M28 is a 1927 Ski/Bicycle trooper. The 28-30 is a 1935.

M/28-30.Matching Floor plate is unmarked. It looks to be a Remington Tang.

How about this one? I picked this one up in Oct 2012 with a bad picture and description from Armslist and had to convince the seller to ship it. Price was less than a refurb is today. When I got it out of the box, I thought that it had the wrong cleaning rod since it was too long. Then I noticed that the barrel was the problem. This is a well used war horse which had it's chamber shortened. Sig Barrel M28 from the Kokkola District for your pleasure.

Interesting.....is it still chambered for 7.62 x 54r? I guess they shortened the chamber to save a barrel? That is not very common for a Finn or Russian rifle. Certainly in the arsenals wheel house and really no reason to do it after it was sold as surplus. It seems it would be too costly for someone to do it after it was sold as surplus. It would be cheaper to buy a different surplus Mosin. So' I'd guess it almost had to be done in the arsenal. Very interesting (and rare) repair.

I never heard of shortening the chamber either except for attempts made at using other ammo types. That is interesting.

It is still 7.62. Some of the M24s were short chambered, but never seen it on a M28 until this one. Seems untouched since import and is a nice Finn rifle otherwise. Butt plate was rusty from years in a closet. The <-R-> may indicate the short chamber modification.
