Considering a K31, but concerned about recoil !, how is it compared to my M44 Mosin ?

Go fire off a 12 gauge shotgun with no pad on the stock with some magnum loads, if you can manage that then no .30 rifle will trouble you.

Last week I tried out my K31, a Polish M44 and a No. 5 jungle carbine - all three with original surplus ammo (GP 11 for the K31, Hungarian LPS and silver/yellow tip HB for the M44 and Canadian DAC 1944 Mk.VII for the jungle carbine). Not much to choose between them IMO - maybe a little harder kicking by the M44 when firing HB rounds.
However, I've been told once that the K31's recoil to a certain degree depends on the tightness of its bore (bore may vary between 7.51 to 7.58 mm) - a very tight bore may produce more recoil. For sports shooting 7.53-7.54 mm are recommended here in Germany.

Personally I don't think the kick of the K31 is as bad as an M44. Have you tried a slip on recoil pad over the buttplate?

The M44 has a stiff recoil but the K31's I have owned all weren't that bad in the recoil department. The worse bar none was the M95 8X56R that carbine was a real shoulder bruiser.

I don't think the K31 has any recoil to speak of. The Enfield No5 Mk1 you know you aren't shooting a No4 Mk1. I sold my Hungarian M44. Just didn't enjoy it. However M44 wasn't anything like the pain of a Budapest M95. K31 is one of my favorites. I usually run 200 rounds through it each time I take it to the range. Many times I will take 3 Rifles and if the K31 is one of them the other two often don't get taken out of the case.
