range day....

another beautiful day at the range. I see I still have to concentrate on the trigger pulling. If I ever was able to see real good that I anticipate the click, today was it.

Started out with my new 91/30. Sighting it in mostly, but it sure seems to do real well. Groups are pretty tight, even when they aren't on center.

Next is my '42 VKT M91. Spot on, of course. Wonderful rifle. Quite accurate.

Both of these two guns have very soft, short triggers. They go boom at, almost, the slightest pressure on the trigger.

Next up is my '41 VKT M91. I was all over the place. Even knew I missed the target completely the first shot. Got it down eventually.

M44 was last. Couple weeks ago I had tight groups and was hitting real good. Did about the same as the '41. BUT, I got it down.

These last two have a longer trigger and need a bit more to snap off. I caught myself, real bad, anticipating the bang, before it would happen.

Shame on me!!

There were a couple visitors on my way into the range, look closely!!

there really are two deer. Mom and her fawn.

Too hot out here to do much. I did venture out to test some M1 handloads around noon. When I left the range, the thermometer outside the safety officer's office read 108. Next weekend should be a little cooler.

I hit the range first thing, 8:00 AM for that very reason. Probably not 108 though. 101 or so probably.

Could be worse. High in Phoenix this weekend is supposed to be 115. Our range is back on summer hours for the weekdays-last shot is 2:00 PM. It also closes if the rain gauge upstream gets a predetermined amount of rainfall as the only access from the main road crosses a wash. Once it starts running, you're trapped. That's pretty rare, but can occur during the monsoon seasons.

I just had my 91/30 1942 out today and got 1 1/4 inch groups at 50 yards. Not too bad.

Took out my '40 Tula Finn Capture for the first time since I got her a couple years back.
That thing is accurate, and I am old and normally can't hit crap.

I'm almost always at 100 yards. I don't feel so bad when I'm not hitting center that way. Even more so at 200 yards! HA!

I'm down in Tucson and am a member of the Pima Pistol Club, so I use the club range. Use of the ranges is free to members and the public can use them for a modest fee ($10). The current range dates to 1968 and has been upgraded substantially. The club is one of the oldest in the western US, having been in continuous operation since 1920. The rifle ranges here are 100 and 200 yards. Only restrictions are no 50 BMG and no incendiary ammunition due to the extreme fire risk.

There are other ranges in the Tucson area, including a couple operated by the Pima County Parks and Recreation Department. I haven't had the time to get up to Big Sandy, though I will do it at some point.
