The Russian Mosin Nagant Forum

Hello everyone, I am brand new to this forum. I've been collecting rifles for a few years now and just picked up an M1891 the other day. Don't worry I will attach pictures! Anyway It's an Izhevsk with the barrel and receiver tang dated 1915. From what I can tell it has not been re barreled. It also seems to have the original Russian stock, what is interesting is that it's a Finnish capture, it has the SA mark on the left side of the barrel and the Finnish swivel slings. If someone could help me figure out if it is the original Russian stock or a Finnish one piece stock It is not a spliced stock except for the butt of the stock, it has been spliced. If any of you have any answers, comments, or questions I would love to hear from you. Thanks!

Looks good, it seems to be an original M91 Russian stock. Looking at the different numbers it seems to have been passed around a couple different civil Guard Units.

Yea I was wondering what all of those numbers were, ive been doing a lot of research trying to figure everything out. Thanks for the reply!

Nice to get a wartime Mosin and yours has nice sharp markings. Thanks for posting.

Even has the spot where the Finnish unit disk used to be....cool

Nice rifle Robert, it was a Civil Guard rifle at some point latter transferred to the Finnish Army. Being it's a 1915 it may not be a Finn Capture, rather one of the tens of thousands of Mosins that where in Finland when then broke away form Russia after the 1917 Revolution. Additionally Finland bought thousands of Mosins, both whole and as parts rifles from countries that either received them as war aid from Russia, captured them, or received them as war reparations at the end of the war. Also during WW2 the Germans sold the Finns captured 91/30's though this number was small in comparison ( IIRC about 30,000) and most where deemed unfit for service and used as parts fodder.

Yes she does! When I first saw it, that is the first thing I noticed were all of the numbers.

Thanks! Yes I do, I have an M39, receiver dated 1900 with a Sako barrel dated 1941. (pictures to follow) I am looking to add an M38 or M44 soon, I used to have a M91/30 Tula 1939 but gave it to my brother. I also have a few other milsurp rifles but they aren't mosins.

Nice collection so far, welcome to the board. Remember that the Finn's adjusted the actions to maximize accuracy, they did this by placing thin metal shims between the action and the stock held in place by the action screws. These shims will not be on every rifle, but if they are be careful to keep them in the exact spots you found them.

Thanks for the tip! This one's definitely a shooter.

The M39 is at the top of the Mosin infantry rifle food chain, I have been impressed by it's abilities many times in the past, and even when shooting commie surplus ammo. It was constructed for serious accuracy for an army that trained marksman.
