M39 range report

Post by thughes »

Finally got a chance to get the '44 VKT out for a little bit of range time this morning. I guess it's true what they say about these Finns being accurate, I can only imagine what it would be capable of if my eyes were 30 years younger......

The first 20 rounds through it at 200 yards:

Good shooting  Even the one at 11 o'clock would have taken out the bad guy. :D

Nice!

What kind of ammo were you using? Maybe some day I'll get out your way, and we can try my M27 against your M39.
Alexander Hamilton, Federalist Papers #29: ...if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens.

PPU 182gn FMJBT, I bought a 100 rounds so I'd have reloadable brass. Can't wait to see how it groups with some hand loads. I've got a few cases of spam cans but figured I'd treat the Finns to something nice.

Thanks but credit goes to the rifle....I'm only along for the ride! "Set the little black fuzzy dot on top of the front sight post and hope for the best"

I shoot the standard 200 yard SR High Power rifle target:

X ring 3.00" dia
10 ring 7.00" dia
9 ring 13.00" dia
8 ring 19.00" dia
7 ring 25.00" dia

Thats a great hit at 200m. I recommend reloading. I have reloaded with 174gn Sierra match kings in .311 for my 41' Sako M39 with rather good results at 100m. Pretty darn good for an 80 year old rifle with a well used Bore
