Blonde Hungarian 48.M

Post by 7x57 »

Some months ago I acquired my second Hungarian 48.M infantry rifle. Yesterday it finally moved into my gun safe. Here pictures of this rifle, together (on top) with my first Hungarian:

The rifle is all-matching, even the bayonet (the first and so far only Hungarian 48.M I've seen with a matching bayonet):

And it came with a correct, Hungarian-marked, rifle-length sling:

To me it seems that this rifle might have served as a parade weapon (maybe that's also the reason why it came with the matching bayonet) or something like this. The stock has been slightly sanded and covered with a high-gloss clear varnish. The front end of the stock also has been re-shaped a little bit, as can be clearly seen in the following picture (to the left my first Hungarian 48.M for comparison purposes):

48M_Hungary_04.jpg
Additionally, the bolt parts in the white have obviously been polished once and the sling slot escutcheons polished to a shiny, brass appearance instead of the usual blackened one (the third picture showing the standard, blackened escutcheon):

These are nice indeed and worth a pile of money. A large pile for the rifle and matching bayonet.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

These rifles are on the endangered species list here in the U.S. So, it is a treat to see them. Thanks.

Thanks, gentlemen. BTW - a short glance into the small calibre forum (http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.c ... =8&t=25623) might be interesting, too. Some new pictures of my newly-acquired .22lr Lámpagyár 48M cadet rifle there, just to "complete" my Hungarian story...

And for the next month I promise a few new pictures for the Mauser community - my Brazilian M1908 will finally move into my gun safe...
