1908 M96 Swedish Mauser
1908 M96 Swedish Mauser
Picked up this 1908 Carl Gustafs M96 Swede Mauser a few weeks ago also. It's a total numbers mismatch (bolt matches itself but not receiver, and bands match themselves but nothing else), but it was in such good shape especially having the cleaning rod and sling I couldn't pass it up. Bore is in excellent shape, and I'm sure this one will be a great shooter. Picked this one up from a local seller for 200 bucks. He even threw in a gun sock.

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Nice! Let us know how it shoots, I bet it shoots great.

very nice, even has the barrel threads and the flash hider..Not many of them made it dwon this way without being neutered..
Re: 1908 M96 Swedish Mauser
I have the same weapon 1914 - bolt is a mismatch but it is the sweetest shooter in my safe. It shot high, but my GS found a lower sight (since the bolt didn't match why not?) It is the "sweedest" shooter in my safe. Got 1" grouping in and around the bull at 100. Showed up all the kids with their AR's. But beyond 100yds my eyeballs just don't focus.
Re: 1908 M96 Swedish Mauser
My best military shooter is a mixed parts M96 and they're just amazing... I also own a all complete matched M96 that doesn't shoot near as well. At that price you found a really good deal as the rifle should cost in the neighborhood of $300 to $350
Re: 1908 M96 Swedish Mauser
It would be hard to find a better quality bolt-action rifle at any price, I let my brother talk me out of one of my two, and I regret it.

Great deal! That's one rifle that I still need to get in my collection.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: 1908 M96 Swedish Mauser
Just a tip for accuracy. Get rid of that after market flash hider. Sweden did not use them. Swedes used a metal cap
or a plastic cap over the treads only. Mostly the plastic thread cap.
If you shoot way high at 100 yards, there are new front sight blades available from a few surplus companies. For 100 yards, usually a
+1.0 or +1.5 blade will be needed. The issued blade with all of these rifles were for 300 meters.

Old outlaw, were those swedish sights marked? Never thought about them being originally set for 300 yards? Thanks. RH10.

Very nice old rifle!
Pretty neat to have a rifle in that shape and be from 1908. The M96's have a reputation for being very accurate. Good for you!
