Well I have been super busy with work and haven't had too much time to look for Mosins but I do take a quick look on gunbroker on the weekends.

I found this one getting ready to end with a low bid and no reserve so I threw out a bid on it. I took is for only $172 :devil2:

Has the 41 stamp.

Also [SA] marked.
Image

Finn two piece stock and hangers.
Image

Came with a [SA] sling.
Image

Finn stacked front sight.
Image

ZeeBills mark. :P
Image

Remington connector.
Image

Sako cocking knob. Did Sako just remark these? It looks like a typical Russian one.

I'll buy these Finn rifles anytime I find them when they cost less than refurbs.

That Finn strap makes it more that run of the mill. Me thinks untouched since it left the Finns. Most Finns wisth the Russian barrel left on are counterbored, is that one? Mine shoots great, 36 counterbored Tula , Finn stock, front sight, yada yada....A Finn is fine, don't finish your Finnish.......SBP........ 5 Finns

I don't even check if they are counterbored because it make no difference to me. I just looked and this one does have a 3/8" cb though.

It is still covered in grease down in the mag and I haven't taken it apart but I assume it hasn't been messed with since importing. I don't plan on shooting this one, just adding it into the collection.

I would say that was a Finn post war rebuild. They are usually excellent shooters and that Finn counter bore being so little should be looked on as a Finn process toward touching up the rifle for later service. They often come with that double stacked front sight and the Finn marked canvas or almost like a nylon fabric sling well marked like that one. Note the substantial reinforcement stitching on the leather pads the Finns used on that sling. That can be a real clue to one of those slings being Finnish in make if they forgot the SA marking. If forget which country made millions of similar to that slings but they did not use that stitching so that can be a clue for you when you are trying to establish it as being Finnish or not. I have a bunch of those non-Finnish slings and I use them anyway because most people think they are Finnish. I bought them by the box many years ago and cleaned them up and used them for years. I bought a very similar rifle to that one a couple of years ago that had everything yours has but a scrubbed badge plate area with only a serial number present. It is a tack driver by the way. Do you get the idea I feel you should enjoy it and shoot it?

Try and keep a prospective on things being found these days, although certain things may be found very infrequently these days not too many years ago they were fairly common and now find themselves residing in many older collectors stashes so although not seen till they are cut loose are really not that rare as they seem to be. Such is I am afraid the totally unfair advantage of being at this for a long before many of you. I am afraid it gives me a jaded view of many deemed wonderful finds that folks are finding these days. Lord that sounded way too snooty and believe me I did not want it to sound that way. I guess I am getting to the point where I am almost ready to apologize for my age and years at this stuff? I do indeed love to hear and see what you folks are finding these days for if nothing else it gives me a greater appreciation for your efforts and what you have found. I would indeed treasure finding a rifle like you have found and enjoy shooting it too. The only catch is if I gave it to one of you younger guys you would make it do far batter than what my old eyes can do these days.

I would say that one was imported straight from a Finnish storage armory and has a very good potential for being an excellent shooter and although not one of a kind is a valuable piece to be found these days. Congrats on a great find! Now go ,shoot it and see how good it shoots! Yeah I know that is your choice and I am just trying to entice you to the range! Bill

I agree with it being a finn refurb. The finns changed quite a bit on this one, other I have look like all they did was to put a property mark on it.

The reason I stated I would not shoot it is because I have so many it is almost impossible for me to shoot them all. I started out shooting them all but I am always buying them and seem to have less and less time to hit the range.

These pop up for sale all the time locally, normally advertised as a Mosin with not mention of being a Finn.

Great, great find. I would be jumping for joy over that.

I think Zeebill's view on how rare these are has some truth to it. There are probably many, many in private collections. But here is another view. As many of these go into private collections, most just end up getting old with the collector. And unfortunately, many of the heirs to the collections have no interest, or knowledge of what they have. Over time, some probably get traded to bubba, while other get turned into a trade-in program to get that all important valuable gift card to Wal-Mart. So they are probably getting more rare as time goes on. I say, enjoy the hunt, get what you can, and celebrate the finds. Enjoy them. I do.

I never commented on this one a couple weeks ago but I sure do like it Lee. The stacked front sight is always a joy to find.
