Here is my second favorite M91. I had to get my grandson to help load pictures. Again I am no expert and I am open for corrections. This one again is of Russian manufacture. It also was early WW1 capture by the Germans. As in many cases it was used in training. I had thought the VII.58 stamp referred to the 7th Landesshutzen Regiment, rack #58. These were front line Austrian mountain troops which is unusual for captured Mosin Nagants. But that now is in question. A post on this site by mosinowner last September pictured a M91 with the same VII.58 marking. If anyone has documentation for these markings or even a good guess please chime in. I am open to all suggestions. After the war it was sold off to Finland. This brings up a second question about the cartouche and number stamp on the butt stock. There is the typical German property stamp over the Russian cartouche. But just above is a stamp "S ?13??". I do not know if this is German, Austrian or perhaps Finn Civil Guard. Again I am open to all comments. Eventually the rifle made it to my collection here in the USA. Pictures and marking explanations??? below.

This one makes three I've seen now. All with the identical VII.58 stamp. Roman numerals were used by the Austro-Hungarians for the Landesshutzen regimental numbers but the 58 has me stumped. Maybe one day lightening will strike. Thanks for the info. Sorry the pics didn't turn out larger.

That is a rifle with a lot of history. Very cool.
