For the Enfield lovers - my new No. 4 Mk. 2

Post by 7x57 »

Got an offer for this No. 4 Mk. 2 out of the UF 55 Axxxxx series and couldn't say "no". I know, they exist also still wrapped in their original oil paper, but mine has left its cocoon already decades ago. Its still unshot, however. Enjoy the pictures.

Very nice, I have one still wrapped in the arsenal preservative paper, had it over 20 years now, some were unwrapped by the dealers to show what was inside. When I bought mine there was an unwrapped one next to it, I wish I had bought that one also. Rare enough in or out of the wrap.

Very nice! :Drool1:

I have two unfired from the "Irish Constabulary" bunch that came into Canada years ago. They were involved in a break-in and theft at my place. The unwrapped one came back unwrapped, and the magazine and bayonet were missing. The magazine , bayonet, and scabbard are still with the other one.

I sometimes ponder the magnificence (at least in our milsurp droolers' minds) of crates upon crates of these military rifles leaving the factories on trucks, trains, and ships during wartime.

Yes, and should time travel be invented all wars across history would come to a screeching halt because we would be doing our very best to steal each and every crate of anything to come out of the arsenals.

I wouldn't steal the regular stuff - just the prototypes and one-only examples.... Much more value for much less effort with carrying away.

Looks like you went straight to the factory and picked it up when it came off the line! Very nice! I'd have a hard time buying one like that because I know I couldn't resist firing it.

Thanks, Gents!

That's my problem, too. I know that in the eyes of many collectors firing such a rifle is sort of a crime (in the US at least - here in Germany this opinion isn't that distinctive because we are much more restricted by our firearms laws and thus to own a rifle and not to fire it would be an immense luxury).

My opinion is different from many. If I had one in the wrapper I would likely unwrap it. If I had this rifle I would shoot it. If it reduced it's value, well too bad. Everything has value. That loss in value would be the cost of enjoying it while I was healthy and able bodied enough to do so. I could save it forever till I die so someone else could decide it's fate, but I wouldn't I don't thnk. It is real nice to look at.

It's already unwrapped and you'll never convince a buyer that it's unfired.

While I have a very keen eye on condition and originality, unfired or not isn't of any importance to me, because I want to shoot all of my firearms - but rare collector's pieces like an M.27rv only just for a test or two of course. As far as that Enfield is concerned, I know its history quite well. It was imported by Frankonia to Germany in the 1970s, still wrapped and was bought in that condition by the seller, who unwrapped and cleaned, but never fired it (like all of his collector's rifles) - for shooting he used only his hunting and sports rifles. I know this gentleman for quite a while already, bought three rifles from him and have not the remotest reason not to believe him.

My meaning was: take it to the range and treat it well. No buyer will believe that it is unfired anyway. You might as well, enjoy it. A few rounds will not significantly reduce the value.

And that's exactly what I'll do - unfired or not isn't of any importance to me. And about selling them or not I even don't think at the moment - most probably that will be a (possible) problem for my kids in hopefully still many years to come.
