marlin 15yn Lil buckaroo

Post by mogunner »

Kinda fell into this one....wife has a long-time friend that purchased this .22 for her new hubby, then down the road found out that he's a felon and can't have one. She thought it best to get it out of the house as well, things in the marriage haven't been going all that great and so brought it down to us to have me store it for her. That was about 6 months ago. She called yesterday and asked if I'd give her $150 for it...a bit more than I would have offered, but since she is the wife's "BFF" and needs the money, I said what the heck and bit on it.

Marlin 15yn "Lil Buckaroo" youth rifle in .22, will shoot shorts, longs or long rifle. Bolt action, wood and bluing are in excellent shape, I'd say it hasn't had very many rounds through it at all. Will make a handy shooter for when the grandkids come down to visit, I think!

Well, lets see, he married her without telling her he had a criminal past, right there you know things aren't going to go well. That's not like forgetting about an old girlfriend, or tipping an outhouse when you were 15, Felony conviction is kinda a big thing. Secrets and omissions, as much a marriage killer as adultery and alcohol. Nice rifle anyway.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Right, so I just happened to bumble onto this thread and...

HOT DIGGITY DAMN that's my gun!!

My grandad bought one like that as my first gun, I was about five or so. Still have it, still missing the rear sight, and still shoots well. I don't want to know how many rounds I've put through it. Don't think I ever cleaned it either… Hmm.
Things could be worse. Work to keep from finding out how much worse.

Geez, mogunner, didn't know you knew Dedcat! :chuckles:

That's about the size rifle he and his SWMBO would need!

Hey cool. A Lil Buckaroo rifle post that I had overlooked. That is a neat little gun and the kids make it look much bigger.

I tossed a cheap China-made 4x scope on it and the little thing is a tack-driver, I was surprised as anything. It'd be nice to find some shorts and longs for it but those are even rarer than long rifle is!

Mogunner, looks like you have a bunch of little buckaroos to use that one!
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

That's a cool little rifle and for $150.00 BFF deal, helping out a wife's friend and ending up with a new rifle is a win win

That is a nifty little rifle.

What is puzzling to me is this; why would a woman buy that rifle for a grown man?

My Father's philosophy was that when you were old enough to shoulder a full size rifle, you were old enough, and wise enough, to shoot. He was not that way with knives. I must have been about seven when he gave me a sheath knife for my birthday along with a long list of rules which I had to keep or lose the blade. It is funny the things you remember from childhood. First knife, first dog, first kiss, first motorcycle, first car. I can not recall my first gun, but I would have bought it for myself as a teenager.

One disappointing things about getting old is that there is not a lot of firsts left ahead of you, except for the Omega first.

The friend isn't "gun savvy" at all, the two were in a pawn shop and saw this, the wife for some reason ended up getting it for him only to find out at a later date that he wanted her to buy it as he would have been denied. Why he wanted it is beyond any of us other than the fact that he had a drug problem.
