Double [SA] Marked Finnish Tikka M28

Post by HexEx »

Greetings all,

Here are some pics of a Finnish M28 that I picked up yesterday. I've noticed a couple of strange things about it though. First off, the receiver is unmarked on the tang. There is a big "W" stamped on the magazine screw post. Is this for Westinghouse? Another thing I noticed is that it has [SA] stamped twice on the barrel shank. I have heard of double stamped ones, but never seen one. Is this a common occurrence? I am not as knowledgeable on the Finnish produced guns as I should be! I went out to shoot it today and, to follow a personal tradition, I fired some original 1929 dated VPT ammo from it. It was surprisingly accurate given the age of the ammo. All in all, I am very happy with my first M28!

I have seen SA stamps in single, double, and sometimes upside down. I wouldn't say it is common, but it isn't real uncommon I think. You got yourself a nice rifle. Congratulations.

Nice looking m28. I seem to remember seeing a W like that on one of my Mosins.

Thanks guys! I sold a really nice M39 on an 1898 Izhevsk receiver a while back, and I have been regretting it ever since. I'm glad this one found it's way to me because I've been looking for another good Finn. I am amazed at how well this one shoots!

Makes you wonder about the Finn's sometimes...i.e., why they would double stamp some of these rifles. In for refurb in a different facility and required to stamp the SA regardless - rules are rules? Didn't see the one on top? :facepalm1: Mis-stamp and required to stamp again? Who knows. Cool though...

If you don't like the double stamp I'll take it off of your hands. Nice Finn.
