1904 M91 Dragoon-Balkan?

Post by Pip6214 »

I got my 1904 M91 Dragoon today and after a few hours with a blow dryer I was able to get the crap load of cosmoline mostly off of it. Upon inspection it looks a lot like a rifle with Balkan heritage due to the peened Imperial markings and CAI import mark. It must have been the first day doing shellac for Ivan on this rifle. The stuff is everywhere and is pooled in some places inside the stock and covers the sling escutcheons, butt plate. The overall shellac finish is poorly done and looks to have been done a while ago. To top it all off, the Type 1 handguard was originally used and the rear sight was changed to a Konovalov sight but the Arshins were not added to the base (whoops.) Adding quite a few pictures.

It looks to be an original style stock, retrofitted crossbolt as well. It looks to have a Romanian splice near the nose cap, but forgot to take a picture.

Other than the fact it's a dragoon, that looks like a typical balkan m91. I like the handguard on it. The repeated letters under the butt plate is a common thing with those also. Nice one!

This is a fantastic find. Very near impossible without Finn traits, but the best part is the handguard. Very nice

That is a very nice Dragoon. Lots of Balkan features including the shellac.

I have a 1895 M91 that must have the same shellac job.
