That is a really nice rifle. The stock is darn near perfect and so is the bluing. A fine example of the preWWII Mosins. If everyone bought one that looked like that there would be no questions about refinishing stocks.
I just noticed that the /25\ on mine looks more like /2\. It's stamped over the no above the serial number so it's hard to read. It also has a 2 on the stock under the rear sight. Does anyone know what that means? I will take pictures tomorrow and upload them if it helps.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

Yours may actually be a DDR grade "2". Please post pics!
The 2 on the stock is probably a typical inspection stmap that no one knows for sure what it is.

I kind of like these reds too. Nicely stamped metal everywhere and beautiful stock. How's the bore? On the ones I have, the bore looks new. I like the stamp just above the crest on the barrel shank. Amazing how nice they could make these when they weren't rushed by little things like war and there were only a few of those windows available.
