Vietnam bring-back M44 (Australia)

Post by TheSovietSamurai »

Hey everybody, finally got my hands on my recently purchased 1945 Izhevsk, supposedly a Vietnam bring-back. Just going by the appearance, I don't doubt it. Although not evident in the pics, half of the bolt face has been completely corroded, along with the underside of the barrel, unfortunately. But I didn't buy her as a shooter, just for the history. No matching parts, but all Izhevsk, looks like it has the 'slashed box' refurb mark on the butt.

The Soviets did send refurbished weapons to their allies during the post WW2 period, not every refurbished Mosin went directly into the crate and the 50 year sleep. Nice find.

That's because the Chinese Chu wood did not hold up as well as the Soviet birch. Parts of South Vietnam could be very hard on weapons as could Charlie.

The front sight is awesome! The stock marking has me puzzled though. It almost looks like a stock off a Romanian training rifle. Very cool all around though. Congrats!
