The "Realistic" Top 5 List
I know there have been a lot of various threads with similar questions, close to this one. But I would like to know what your "realistic" top 5 purchase list is.
Not what top 5 are a must in a collection.
Not what are your top 5 dream items.
Not items that are so uncommon, that realistically, you would probably never see in person. And even if you did, you probably really couldn't purchase them. (Even though we do have some here with deep pockets)
I want to know, with the budget you have now, looking realistically at the next year or so, what you plan, or would like to have, on a Top 5 purchase list.
Here is my list. This is what I am currently saving money up for.
1) M39 Mosin Nagant, most likely a SAKO.
2) M1 Carbine
3) Swiss Vetterli infantry rifle, any version before the 1878 model
4) Remington Model 8, or Model 81, in a caliber that is reloadable.
5) Any Swiss infantry rifle, after the Vetterli, and before the K31.
Does this mean I will not buy something else if I spot a good deal. Of course not. I just recently bought a Russian IJ70-18A Makarov for $180.00. But these items are my primary top 5 items I am always saving up for, in that order.
It was not easy for me to limit the list to just 5. But I think it works for this thread.
Thanks for sharing.

PS. This may be a good thread to refer to if you decide to sell something in the future.

Re: The "Realistic" Top 5 List
My top 5 you would have to go back to 1980 or so,
1 M1 Garand
2 US M1903
3 US M1 Carbine
4 US M1873
5 US Krag
Back then the list had 100's of slots, most filled now.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: The "Realistic" Top 5 List
1. Original WWII era 1911 preferably a Remington Rand
2. Luger
3. Original GI bringback K98
4. Type 99 Arisaka as complete as possible, mum, matching, aircraft sights, monopod, dust cover. Does not have to have everything listed though pretty much
about in this order.
5. Springfield's
Alternates, will probably find these first
A. MAS 56
B. Ljungman AG-42
This is what I'm working on now, I've set my sights high but this is what I want to find at prices that I can work with. Always subject to change, never know when I'll run across a really nice SA marked Model 91

Re: The "Realistic" Top 5 List
Dang maybe this is a good thread to help others. Well too late maybe. I have a line on a mas49 but I am keepin that line to myself. I have passed at least 5 she rifles on my travels and a Rasheed just the other day. I will try to remember where on the rashid.

Hard to go wrong with a Swiss 96/11.

Re: The "Realistic" Top 5 List
I don't really have a list of 5 that I am targeting for the next 12 months. But I do have a list of milsurps that I want and will buy depending on availability and funds. Here are a few that I am always on the lookout for:
1) 1900 Sestroryetsk - This will complete my set of Russian 1900 M91's.
2 & 3) A Chatellerault and a Remington M91
4) Non-refurbished 91/30's to complete my set
5) M91's - Love the long rifles, you can never have too many.
See, a nice and simple list.....

I'm broke because I buy milsurps. I'm rich because I buy what I enjoy.

Thanks for all the participation.
I had to google some of these models. It's pretty cool to see what people are currently into.
Good luck on the hunt.

Re: The "Realistic" Top 5 List
Sorry to be late getting here. I was thinking of what I really want and to be honest. I have already bought most of what I want. I think my best bet is to buy the next 5 guns that come into the gun shop passes up. I did want to buy one but the owner, (its not fair), decided he needed. He was very happy to give a guy $400.00 for his Russian Tokarev. It was fun to see the guy think the owner paid $200.00 more than the pistol was worth but that's what he wanted. Russian Tokarevs can go for up to $2000.00.
