Wow. They crated up some nice ones to ship to the frozen north. Great looking gun!

Took it to the range this afternoon and had a blast,a really really loud blast, you don't want to shoot this without hearing protection.lol

But the giggle factor is sky high on this gun. It's like a sks on steroids. :D I even managed to bumpfire it without breaking my thumb and that's a good thing. The only drawback I can see with this rifle is that it's a lot more complicated to strip down to clean compared to a SKS but some time cleaning guns is fun in itself.

Anyway it's a fun gun and I'm very happy with it.

Good for you. Here is a link to a tool that is used for the gas adjustment, http://www.blackrivergunsmithing.com/to ... ories.html
My SVT shoots well with silvertip Bulgarian ammo. Tuning it in after cleaning can be a chore, but it shoots and sounds fantastic.

Wow, beautiful rifle and amazing price. Way more $$ down here. I have heard the SVTs are kinda difficult to take down and can have corrosion issues using corrosive ammo. Normally I am against altering any old milsurps, but as a preservative measure, is it possible to send the rifle to a shop and have the internals coated to help prevent damage and preserve them? Just curious, as I hope to get one in the future.

They are really not that bad to clean, they just have more parts to clean than normal. I wouldn't coat it with anything as the Russians did a good job of setting tolerances.

Congrats on the SVT !!

Breaking down and cleaning is rather fun on an SVT as it is like a puzzle... but for adults !!!

I was at a show this weekend, and there was one nice svt-40 for $1200. I didnt even pick it up to look at it. every time I see one, I think of the Canadians and the 1/4 priced -40's, and I cant justify the high $.
Congrats on a nice rifle. :Drool1: :vcool:

I'm in the process of selling mine as I don't care for the hour+ it takes to clean it properly.
I've had it long enough, time for someone else to play with it.
Sold it for $1175 the first day it was posted.

Sorry about this but... with the Christmas deal I got at Lever Arms in British Columbia, you could have bought 6 SVT-40s for the price of the one you saw at the show.

Needless to say I bought two, one for me and one for my son.

Given our gun laws and our 5 round max for mags, we have to catch our breaks where we can.

I'd love to find an SVT-40 in the U.S. for anywhere even remotely close to what the OP paid for his.

You can say that again. After my last cleaning I have decided not to shoot it again till I start reloading. Then I will set the gas to 0 and hand cycle.

I've walked by that rack at P&D too many times. Always tempting to pick one up. Nice rifle!
