M44 Pawn shop find.

Post by B24 »

Picked up my 3rd Mosin last week a 1948 Izhevsk M44 carbine. They kept saying it was a Chinese but it is definitely Russian.
It had a tag on it at $269.95 so I asked them what the bottom dollar was and I walked out the door for $235, not a super
bargain but I thought a very fair price in todays market. It appears to not be a refurb, all numbers match and shows no
wear on the bluing, all parts that are marked have the Izhevsk triangle and arrow stamp. It has a funky repair where the
toe splice split. Only thing I could complain about is Bubba did not clean it after shooting corrosive surplus. The rust was
minor and the barrel cleaned up very well. I think the sling is a reproduction, thin leather on the dog collars and a big red
star on the sling. I've put 10 rounds through it so far and was hitting a 6 inch target at 120 yds so it looks like its going to be
a shooter.

Picked up my 1st Mosin in March (1928 Tula) when Classic had the hex for $149.95. A couple months later I traded for a 1917 Remington that is a total mismatch but I think is a SCW, it has a heavily sanded stock, wire sling hangers and no import mark.
Does 3 Mosins qualify for Mosinitis? I think I have it. I'll try to get some pictures posted sometime.

Thanks to all that checked this post.......Gregg

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Most 1948 M44's appear to be "unissued". It's the last year of Russian production and finding one for less than $250 is a good deal IMHO. Take good care of it and enjoy!!
