Man that is a lot of markings on that one. I can't tell where the date is on it though. Sweet

I can't make out the date, pull back a bit with the camera you are holding it to close for it to focus or you are not using the Macro setting. Strong light is also needed for indoor closeups or the cameras focus points can't lock on.

Yep, guns are usually dark subjects, so the auto-focus/auto-exposure needs help from extra light. Direct sunlight is best with flash to fill in the shadows.
