Tula 1908 M91 via Bulgaria

Post by jm190 »

I needed a Russian M91 to keep my Finn M91 company. None of the numbers match and she's made up of a mix of Tula and Izhevsk parts. The bolt has a number stamped on the knob Finn style. There is a shim under the trigger guard but it looks rather modern. The barrel and receiver have been with the stock a long time as there are clear impressions left from the wood to metal contact. The barrel shank markings have been only lightly scrubbed. The front barrel band has a shim and the rear barrel band has the pins. The only marks on the stock are two pine cones and what looks like a Russian "D". There is a mark under the butt plate that I could not find a reference for and the butt plate has a stamp as well. The stock is not birch and looks a lot like the nutwood on my Finn M91. Any comments and observations would be most welcome.

Here's some photos.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

PS to all the 1891 owners, how about some range reports, at long distances?
