Post by gurn »

Anyone ever seen one of these or heard of one? I was looking at one in a gun shop today and the only mark is the serial # Didn't pay a lot of attention with a price tag of $500

Supposedly made late 60's-early 70's. Target or civilian? I would have paid that in a heartbeat.
How many have you seen?

Yeah just like that except on the receiver where the empirical eagle would be that spot was ground in a circular pattern.

So few have been seen, that is hard to answer.
I'd not have blinked an eye at $750-$1000 on the price tag.

I'm a cheap #@&%$#* so the price tag made me put it back on the shelf. I didn't know about this variant so I will try and get them down as much as I can and pick it up. I usually happen across nice ones for a lot less.

I bet the guy who saw it after you and bought it is happier than a pig in shit right now. You don't even hear of these rifles much let alone see one.

You never know what you will find so you keep looking. I got a nice 28/30 awhile back from a shop I look in all the time and socially go out with the owner. I had not found anything there for years and the he said hey I got a Mosin for you. Nice looking 28/30 and he wanted $150 for it. So I dickered him down to $125 and out the door I went. He thought that was a good price because all the refurbs around which have been costing more and looking better. Being as I am not buying any refurbs I kind of hope they keep those prices high, sorry guys but it helps me get better prices. Bill :D

What is it worth :redfaced: ? $ $ $ $, :shifty: One is currently up for sale and it WILL go for OVER $1,000.00..........likely higher :chuckles: .

I'm dead busted broke in my "gun-fund" :redfaced:  :redfaced: with a threat of "Death by Bunga-Bunga" from my wife if I buy another rifle and I STILL would have jumped on the one you describe....... , for $500.00.

I got it but the best I could get them to do was $399+ tax. She is a beauty but someone shot surplus and didn't clean. The bore looked a mess and thats the only reason they went down $100 but after a lot of scrubbing its not all that bad. I could tell it must have been nice before because it has sharp lanes. There is still some rust in the groves but may be a day or two with Break Free in there will loosen it up more. There is no "D" on the barrel either so should only .308 bullets be used? The receiver is a 1906 Izhevsk. The stock is beautiful, will get a pic or two in a bit and good ones this weekend. My 1889 Swiss came in also today from Simpsons so I have been cleaning it up and am about to call it a night. Wore out, been a long day working and then cleaning the new toys.
TopperT, pm me the link of that other one so I can see how it does.

I bet if you offered him ten grand cash that rifle would be yours :)
