Hello, I am a newbie as far as Mosin Nagants go. I have done lots of research tho. I recently went to a local store and found a 1939 Mosin Nagant PU sniper rifle. In my research I have read that PU snipers didnt start until about 1942 (I think that is right). Anyway, I was wondering if it is a fake and is just an infantry gun with a PU scope added to make it a sniper. The 7 digit serial that is on my 1944 Izhevsk ex-sniper on left of receiver is NOT present on this 1939 Izhevsk PU sniper.
I am posting photos of the receiver and scope. What do you think. Is it an original? Thanks.
Al

It's a fake, a 91/30 with a reproduction scope added to it.

Welcome to the board, the PU sniper came along in 1942, not 1939, fake.

If you see those flat screws on the scope, it's one of the easiest giveaways of a reproduction and/or fake (which I've always thought kindof odd, because you see it often, yet it should be one of the easiest things to fake).

Probably a Century arms rifle, what a shame.

If PU sniper came along in 1942, What year did they end?.
Generally ....PU mount (1942 to 1963). Other countries made them also.
