Chinese T53... buy this one or not?

My LGS has a 1955 Chinese T53 Mosin-Nagant... all the serial numbers match except for the bolt which is Russian made. The stock has seen some wear but has no visible cracks in it. The bluing has seen better days but the metal is not overly pitted. The bayonet appears fine. I can see no damage to the gun at all other than the stock with the usual dings. The bolt is tied down with a cable tie so I can't open it to look (haven't asked to do that yet). They are asking $249. Assuming no damage to the chamber and bolt area, is this a reasonably good deal?

In my opinion 249 is a bit pricey, maybe a full blown matching Russian would run in that range. They can be found on line between 100 and 150 in roughly the condition you describe.

One of the board sponsors may have one, like Trinity Arms, one of my Type 53s came from him.

OK, thanks guys... I'll keep looking. This same LGS has a 1936 Soviet era Russian MN carbine for $219... in roughly the same general condition, maybe a little nicer. None of the numbers match up. You you all think that's a little high as well?

I honestly thought it was funny lol. They but in their 3rd string qb lol

And about that 1936 id say that's high as well... with the exception of my finn capture 91/30 and my pu snipe ive gotten all of my mosins at less than $200

Bud's has hex 91/30's for $170 with free shipping, so tack on $20 for your FFL transfer if you don't have a C&R and you're looking at $190 and more than likely the numbers will match, possibly a force match on the floorplate but still not a mutt like that one.

T53 is a $200 gun on the extreme high side ( for a real nice one or something like a bring back rifle ). $250 is average price for a Russian M44.

I gave $250 for my '44 M44 from Buds and $37 FFL charge but other places do not charge as much for the FFL transfer.

I'd be taking a close look at this if it was me.

Being a '36 MN carbine, non matching... was it a hex or round receiver? was it Russian? M-44 or M-38 or ??? The thought of '36 MN carbine intrigues me... :D

$250 for a pretty average T53 :big shock:. Order 3 or more from SOG and they are only $94 each ($99 if you just buy one)

As everyone has already said, $250 is way high for that T53. Let it sit there for a couple months and then see if he wants to deal on the price. He has to make a profit, so I wouldn't expect to get it for $100 but I would not pay over $150 for it. We need pictures of the 1936 Mosin Nagant because there are way too many things that can affect the price of this one.

That was the "???" I was thinking of. Course, if you know me, that was the first thing I would think about but I couldn't bring myself to type it

This one was $106 with matching except bolt (very common situation) and a like new bore. All matching on GB often go for less than $140. Keep looking!!!
