Hungarian M44 (Bought 2 weeks ago)

Post by mosinowner »

This is my first M44. Picked it up at my local gun store / range for $120.

1952 Hungarian M44

Loaded with "02" stamps that represent Hungary country code.

One thing I find interesting is that I think the arsenal may have misread the serial number on the barrel when they stamped it on the receiver. The barrel is "BC 8761" but the "8" is struck rather lightly on the left side. I think the arsenal misread it as a "3" because the stamped number on the receiver is "BC 3761"
The buttstock is stamped "8761" (I think the letters on the buttstock "CA" were part of the old serial number that was removed.
Any Thoughts??

(Photos taken with Canon S90 which has a pretty decent macro setting for a point & shoot camera)

I really like the look...a darker wood and with the bluing mostly and equally worn on all visible metal parts, it has an almost nickel like finish.
Worn yet attractive.

Nice pic up. I think it was Bunkysdad that was looking for a photo of an 02 mark on a bayonet. And you nailed it.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

This one is going to the range this weekend. My friend has a 75 yard range with lots of steel.

He has plans to extend the distance to at least 100 yards, but that will be at a future date.

Looks clean, thanks for posting the pictures!

I found the sling after I bought the rifle...just got lucky and got a sling with the same 1952 date as the rifle (even if the sling is not Hungarian)

I like it. Lots of character.
If you need an 02 rod I have one, and I need a nothing fancy sling w/collars for my 91/30.

Interested in your range report. I recently bought a Romanian M44. I found out the hard way at the range that the barrel is shot. It’s a wall hangar.

Nice looking rifle!

I always like them the way they are supposed to look like. Not all dolled up.

Nice collectable rifle!

Very nice M44. And the presentation was excellent.
Wish I could find something like this for that price. Sweet deal.
