Couldn't Pass, 1.TRZ M44
Couldn't Pass, 1.TRZ M44
A couple Yugoslavian reworked M44's have been available in the past, but I couldn't pull the trigger at $300-plus.
So, when this one showed up on Gunbroker with poor description and pics, it was worth a chance at $179 plus shipping. With none left on the primary market, one needs to wait for a collector to decide to turn a gun loose. Turned out to be a winner. It needed a bayonet, but I had one kicking around.
These are just as nicely finished as advertized. Not original matching, but very nice. There are a couple of stamps on the receiver, which weren't a habit of the Soviets, so the Yugoslavians are the next best guess for their origin. Rear sight leaf in the white. Very discreet import mark under the muzzle end, keeps it clean.
Stock is sanded, of course, and the CCCP cartouche is all but gone. Refinished in oil, and the 1.TRZ cartouche added. Pics, and thanks for looking.

Bugger, I think I looked at that one and kept going as I was never an M44 guy. Now I..................

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I doubt it. I think these came in a while back like Martin said. Way before Molot started their deal.srv1 wrote:By any small chance is that a Molot?

Do yopu think it was sanded by bubba or the Yugo's?
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

The refinish is entirely done by the Yugoslavs. They reblued the metal, stripped the shellac, oiled the stocks, and applied the sharply stamped 1.TRZ.Ironnewt wrote:Do yopu think it was sanded by bubba or the Yugo's?
If you ever see one, grab it. They were once semi-abundant on the primary market in the mid 1990's, but after the short flood, no more have been imported, and precious few show up for sale today. So keep a sharp eye out. I noticed mine was advertised as simply "Nagant RUSSIAN M44 Carbine 7.62x54R No Bayonet", and one pic very faintly showed the Yugo cartouche. One bid at $179 brought her home.
