The whole 30 minute program tonight on Midway USA's Gun Stories with Joe Mantegna is all about the history of the Mosin Nagant Rifles. This is my favorite tv show concerning firearms, and each week they cover a different firearm, or series of firearms.

I watched it and enjoyed it. I certainly didn't learn anything that I didn't already know or learn from all of you guys, but it was nice to see the Mosin Nagant rifles on TV.

It was a broad brush overview that hit the highlights of the history of the weapon and the American interest in it, especially post cold war. The really positive aspect was his discussion about the simplicity of the rifle and how it was used as an infantry weapon by Russian "farm boys" during both World Wars. I was a bit disappointed that he didn't give much credit to the cartridge which is the oldest military cartridge design still in continuous production and used by the Russian and other present-day modern military forces.

I watched it and enjoyed it. It was a pretty good show and there were a couple of things I learned, but most of it was stuff I already knew. However, it is good to see a program about the Mosin-Nagant.

I think the thing I enjoy most when watching these type of shows is the incredible slow motion camera action. Anytime they can slow down the firing of a Mosin or anything else for that matter to the point that you can watch the bullet clearing the muzzle ahead of a blast of hot gases, then eventually all of the recoil catches up, well that is just plaon cool. Not to mention the surprise of how much these things flex and move under fire way too fast for the naked eye. There is a slow motion video on Youtube of a SVT40 flexing like a rubber gun when it fires. You'd swear it's gonna come apart.

I'll look on Netflix. I'm one who has opted out, no cable, no dish, no monthly bill. I stream stuff for $8.90 a month. though I do miss out on stuff.

Anyone know if you can stream the Outdoor Channel online anywhere? Channels like this are about the only thing I miss not having since I ditched DirecTV years ago.

Watched it with my wife. Her comment was "See, I'm not the only one that thinks its ugly." was hoping that she'd gain some appreciation for them. But since she doesn't mind me getting them, I'll be ok with what she said..
