Hello all. New member here. I posted over on the new guy section and was asked to post up more pics of my newly acquired rifle. So here they are. I know almost nothing about these old gals so please feel free to mention any notable details.

Ugg, I spent time to make sure they were posted in the right orientation and dammit, most aren't. Sorry :-(

Looks like you have a force matched (at time if referb) 1934 Tula.. The stock and rifle have been referbed as evidenced by the box with a slash stamp on it.. Yours is a Hex barrel which is more desirable then the rounds, but reall does not improve anything.. Looks like your still in a prewar stock which is what you wan to see on a prewar rifle. A very nice first start to your collection, congrats and enjoy !!

Ohh and your stock has a repair in he toe, a common repair but very cool none the less !!

Hex receivers are just an older style choice, the round was made to shorten production time and save money starting in the later 1930's The receivers went through many smaller revisions as the war went on, all of them minor. There is no operational difference between a hex and round receiver.

Thanks for the warm welcome and info on my rifle. Yeah, already thinking about another... like prolly everyone else I'd love a sniper. I'm happy that the one I have is in good shape. Going to the range tomorrow to put a few down the barrel. I was shocked to find that my local Gander Mt had ammo for this rifle and at a decent price too. $0.50 a round. I pay that for .380 ammo for my PPK. They keep the 7.62x54R in the "Varmint" section. Not sure what sort of varmint you'd be hunting with 7.62 but whatever.

...do you all think it's ok to keep a Walther and the Mosin more or less in the same area? I sure hope they don't start fighting :-)

The PU snipers are a great collectable, but not the greatest as a shooter when you are accustomed to western high quality optics and mount styles. R Guns has real PU snipers for around $800-$1000, beware of the many fakes out there.

You can select a sniper the same way the Russians did, just keep piling them up and shooting them until you find the one that shoots the best and BINGO, that's your sniper. You don't want one of those scopes anyway! Seriously though, nice hex!

Ha! I don't want one so I can be a sniper. I want one because I think they are neato. I'd prolly would shoot it just so I could say I shot it.

I am Russian though... 100%. Was born here so don't speak much Russian... just bad words my grandfather called me.

Thanks for the compliments on my "hex". I'll pass them along to her, will make an old gal feel nice :)

Very nice looking rifle.

I don't think anyone said this yet but you can find ex-sniper rifles and not a bad price. Normally they are cost more then the normal 91/30 mosin but not like $800-1000 range of the snipers with scopes. In my area $250-350 is about the going price so about twice the 91/30. Maybe that would work for you.

Nice Tula! Do you have any family over there who have served in the military?

I'm in the same boat JYD. I'm not Russian but I married one and the only Russian I speak fluently are the swear words my wife calls me when she's pissed! :chuckles: To the OP, welcome to the Board. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people here who can answer just about any MN related question you might have so don't hesitate to ask. Nice Tula hex in a post war stock btw... 8-)
